My thoughts while watching the programme was that the ending with the water was probably recorded. I don't know how long it would take to set something like that up, but my guess is a while.

I think the bigger reason to pre-record would be that it involved the cast of a West End show, who would be appearing in that on Saturday night.

I don't really see why any of it needs to be live, there was nothing in episode 1 that required a live element

There is some form of magic that you get from knowing a programme is going out live though.

I can't remember the last time I was this excited about the return of a TV show. I still remember it being voted the second greatest ITV show during ITV50.

Really? I'm not saying it's a bad show (for a 21st century Noels House Party) but not second best in 50 years?

I was told by someone at ITV a few years later it was one of the shows that was rigged, loads of online votes had been cast for shows which were ignored including for You Bet! and Crossroads.

The parody at the beginning!

Wonder what that meant to viewers in Scotland and Northern Ireland...
I thought UTV uses ITV continuity overnight? Scotland though, yeah, they would've probably thought that STV opted into network too early or something, they wouldn't recognise the ident unless they've been visiting TV pres websites.

I think it should be in the list, since it did help re kick ITV on a Saturday night but said list is a utter joke Crossroads, is not in the list yet Emmerdale is. Like at No 45, No 9 why on earth are there in the list. This debate is a pointless in some respects.

That does NOT surprise me........ I wonder what the real list contains?

UTV does use ITV continuity overnight, but most viewers aren't going to be watching at that sort of time anyway.

I think that STV and UTV could be a bit unhappy about this though, especially given that it was right at the beginning of the programme, and given the recent changes that have resulted in references to ITV having to include references to STV and UTV as well (e.g. when website addresses are given out), or no reference to ITV at all (e.g. "+1" instead of "ITV+1").

It's not a show that has to be live, but it's a show that benefits from it. Viewers like that 'anything can happen' factor. I remember when the mystery curtain failed to open during the What Happens Next segment or whatever it was called, and they had to fix it during the break.

As somone whose travelled the lifts at the ITV Studios there is no way they made it to the top and got 'changed' in the space of an ad break - unless of course since the rebrand they have been turbo charged Razz Razz

It's been pointed out to me (by someone who was working in the building last night) that there is a service elevator, and it was reserved for use by the production team.

I'm going to go for it being live. In some ways, prerecording bits of programme is just more scope for things to go wrong.

I don't think they would fake it tbh given 'the past'.

The lift in question is lift F. It's The fireman's lift which goes up the side of the inner core of the tower block. If you were looking at the front of the building its on the inside of the building where the audience gathers outside. Handily the bottom of the lift is at the ground floor, by the scene dock and not far away from the scene dock doors of Studio 1 itself which is where this programme is produced.

But none of the lifts go right up to the top of the building, even lift F stops 2 floors short and the remainder has to be done on foot.

the same person has now told me that they've found out that the roof bit was prerecorded shortly before the TX. So now we know.
