Many questioned whether it was merely a fake prop, but the awkwardness that ensued once this happened suggests it probably wasn't.
Goooood grief. These people must think Byker Grove was a documentary if Ant's acting is so realistic. It's a wonder they're not up in arms over the alien invasion Ant & Dec have been thwarting in their spare time.
Kind of rubbish to think that the whole schtick behind the opening performance was just so Ant could throw a camera on the floor. I promise I'm really not the kind of person who goes ranting on Twitter when he sees a programme he doesn't like and can't be bothered to turn over, but I just find it sad to think how lacklustre this show is becoming. As the old saying goes, I'm not angry. I'm just disappointed.
We just know Ant and Dec can do better. In theory this should be the format that gives them the most freedom but of the three they do it feels the most restrictive.
Can’t put my finger on it, but this series feels a bit ‘off’ -
I love the show and can’t say what’s wrong.
Maybe it’s trying too hard, a bit like Clarkson, Hammond and May on the final Top Gears or The Grand Tour.
Too contrived?
Feels like it’s missing something too. Not sure if Fleur East adds anything, at least Scarlett Moffat was fun, sometimes unintentionally.
Definitely too contrived. It’s missing the bits where they bring someone down from the audience which seems to have been replaced by frantic giveaways. It’s nice to give stuff away, but it’s better telly to have them in a bit more of a relaxed and chatty setting.
I think the whole place on the plane stuff has taken over too much.
Agreed. For me there is absolutely nothing entertaining about them just giving stuff away for the sake of it. There needs to be some sort of game mechanic that produces comedy moments in the first part.
This weeks Ant vs Dec was not very televisual at all. The Men in Brown sketch needs scrapping, Who Shot Simon Cowell & Who Stole Crown Jewels worked well because although silly they had a proper concept and direction. Having watched the two sketches this series, I couldn’t tell what the objective is because it just hasn’t grabbed my attention.
I’m a celebrity get out of my ear was slightly better this week but is only a couple of minutes of good content stretched out into 10 minutes.
The end of The Show Show just feels like it needs to be more of a set piece it just feels a bit bare.
Indeed, they usually tease an upcoming Undercover early on in the series as "coming soon".
This is much like in Series 2, where they did the Simon Cowell Undercover and trailed it for weeks and weeks and weeks. Of course, Noel's House Party used to do the same thing.
To be honest, I've never liked the little televised panto-humour style segment they first put in a few years back. Just seems like a bit of filler so they get a break from the whole show being live from start to finish, which presumably allows them to get stuff ready for the next part of the show more easily. Seems more like a device to make things easier for the show's production than something to increase the viewers' enjoyment. I tend to be unable to watch A&DSNT when it goes out live so I watch on the ITV Hub and the last couple of weeks, I've just skipped past 'Men in Brown' after being nonplussed by it in week one.

As I recall it first appeared so that they had time to prepare for/come back from that week's big Ant v. Dec extravaganza - which used to be things like clambering around a structure suspended 200 feet from the ground, or driving monster trucks.
Ant v. Dec is noticeably a much smaller affair these days, so I'm not sure it really fulfils that purpose any more. It's just become a thing.
It seems to be Saturday Night Takeaway is about to head down the path Noel's House Party did, but in a different form. With House Party, they constantly rejigged routines, formats, rebuilt the set over and over again, and transformed the look of the House Party from what it looked in 1991/1992 to something completely different by 1998/1999.
Saturday Night Takeaway is now in a similar phase, but it seems their productions team have decided to cut back on routines, and not reform any sketches, but simply to drop them, and fill in the time with huge amounts of padding.
Was there a Mulhern game show insert this week? (I only caught the end of the show)
I think half an hour of In For A Penny provides at least if not more entertainment than Saturday Night Takeaway now and on about 1% of the budget! (Not that it matters to Ant and Dec too much as it’s still filling up the bank account of their production company I believe!)
Also Win The Ads is a bit odd this year, like on the most recent episode there wasn’t that much suspense for the audience as the first audience member the finger zoomed in on was picked! At least they’ve addressed the male/female ratio a bit I suppose...
