Now - Ant and Dec are very good presenters, I have been watching them since I was a kid back in the 1990s - I feel they could have done a little bit more to make the 2020 series so far better. My opinion.

I feel if they took the 90 minute show and decreased it to a one hour format, it would be better, much tighter, less padding. My opinion.

OK, that is my views, if you do not like them fine - but please do not try and sit there thinking you are right all the time, there are other opinions, and if we can't air them, and can't say what we honestly think of any TV show, then what is TV Forum actually for?

6.5 million viewers last night, most watched show on a Saturday night and the biggest audience of the week.

But JKDerry doesn't like it so they must cancel it immediately and perhaps replace it with 90 minutes of JKDerry explaining incorrectly how studios and productions operate?

"Everyone can sense it" after all!

Wink

Listen - are we now in the world where if I do not agree with your views I am in the wrong? Is this the "woke" society now here in TV Forum?

No.

It's really not difficult. When presenting an opinion it's how you present your opinion that grates so much.

There are some good points in this thread, and from the few bits I've seen I tend to agree the show is too heavily scripted and we've seen how Ant and Dec perform better when ad libbing around a theme - I'm a celeb is a prime example of this working well.

However your claim "EVERYONE CAN SENSE IT" instead of "I can sense it" is a BIG difference and the audience figures prove this statement wrong.

No one is saying you can't have an opinion but you need to present it as opinion not fact, and certainly not try and apply your opinion to everyone with phrases like that. That will always get people's backs up whatever the topic.

Besides spending 90 minutes watching something that makes you so angry you need to keyboard bash online is not a healthy mental space for anyone to be in. It's ok to turn the tv off or go into a different room.

Sadly I think this criticism could be placed onto most ITV entertainment formats. The Masked Singer would’ve felt tighter for some episodes being only an hour, The Voice UK probably the same. But as a commercial business, they want popular shows to have more ad breaks!

Length of show is probably not something Ant and Dec have a say in?

They pad all programmes out. Noel Edmonds used to make the opening of twenty-two boxes take sixty minutes.

Certain episodes of The Greatest Dancer have been 2 hours long recently, and that’s on BBC One.

There is now way there is 30 minutes ‘padding’ in Saturday Night Takeaway, the only way they could get it down to 30 mins is by scrapping a third of the features and importantly, a third of the budget.

They did a 60 minute episode in 2017 because of the Six Nations running into primetime and there was a lot of complaining online about not doing a “proper” show. They can’t please everyone.

When a programme gets as many viewers as SNT, there’s no way they’re going to decrease it in length 🤦‍♂️ They’ll want to milk out as much ad revenue out of it as they can.

I get that *some* may find it a drag but I saw several friends posting on social media last night about how it is essentially their Saturday night routine.

Last nights' episode has been removed from ITV Hub and STV Player:

The Mirror posted:
Anne Marie has issued an apology for her performance on Saturday Night Takeaway.

The singer took part in the End of the Show Show with hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, which appeared to incorporate the historical 'Rising Sun' Japanese flag.

The Geordie presenters sported an image resembling the controversial flag on bandannas across their heads - sparking huge outcry from viewers.

After facing a backlash from fans over the sketch, Anne Marie took to Twitter to 'sincerely apologise' to those who had been offended.

As part of their costumes, Ant and Dec were seen wearing what appeared to be the rising sun symbol on bandannas on their heads.

The orange disc with sixteen rays coming off it is a renowned symbol of the military and was flown during Japan's imperialist expansion when it occupied Korea and part of China in the 19th Century.

During World War Two, the flag became the symbol of the navy and continued to gain a controversial reputation as Japanese troops occupied much of Asia and carried out atrocities on local people.

Today the flag appears on items such as clothing and product packaging and to support Japan at sporting events. However, it is still particularly offensive to those in East Asia, particularly South Korea.

EDIT: The episode still being advertised as available on STV Player over the end credits of Catchphrase. Possibly a pre-recorded announcement.

No wonder the episode has been removed. Any apologies from Ant and Dec?

Greg’s may not be pp because a bbc show would mention them a few times as well. Something didn’t feel right last night although the show was still brilliant and the rising sun flags at the end - whoops but people need to get over things like that as honest mistakes happen on live tv - list other shows done in tc 1 please as not to sure what else has ever been done there please thanks.

There's a difference between a spontaneous mistake made on a live TV programme i.e. someone saying something wrong, and a prop/costume. The latter isn't spontaneous, it's been selected by the production team before the broadcast.

Yes of course its an honest mistake and they weren't intending offence. Probably it's just a bit of nievety of the part of the team that they didn't think to check first

That's not how it works though, there have been demonstrations in some countries following similar incidents in the past, which have led to deaths. No broadcaster can afford to dismiss it as a mistake, ITV's handling will be key. The apology issued by the singer hopefully has been co-ordinated with the broadcaster.

We'll see in the coming days.
