Everyone turned their backs on Barrymore because he was a complete monster to work with who was already on thin ice by the time the pool incident happened. Maybe if he hadn't burnt all his bridges he'd have found a way back?. You go on to mention Matthew Kelly but he has continued to have a successful career! He's spoken of recording gameshow pilots he just hasn't particularly enjoyed doing them and instead prefers to do theatre now. The industry is quite fickle and will tolerate dicks until the point of no return. Then they'll forgive almost anything but being a dick.
I still can't help but compare to this to Michael Barrymore's scandal. Yes, a body was found on his property, though he has never been found guilty of directly causing his death. AIUI, ITV washed his hands of him completely because his drug habits conflicted with his family friendly image, and he was pretty much ITV's pride and joy back then. They even turned their back on Matthew Kelly in light of sex abuse allegations that he was ultimately cleared of.

I know Matthew Kelly was eventually offered his job back to host Stars In Their Eyes but IIRC he shunned it to pursue acting again. But the point I was trying to make was they dropped him when he was merely accused of wrongdoings. It was only when he was cleared that ITV was "hey we cool Matthew, we cool?" There's an investigation ongoing with Ant but the video footage that's circulating doesn't show him in a good light, but this time ITV are carefully considering which route to take and not completely washing their hands of him like they seemed to do back 15 years ago.

Should we remember that he's not being accused of sexual assault, nor murder. It's an offence that could result in 6 points and a fine. For many people it wouldn't have any impact on their employment. I realise the repercussions in terms of sponsorship deals etc. but his reasons for requiring rehabilitation should be separated from the incident IMO. It's just a shame that it required an accident to kick And (and those around him) to seek relevant care/ support.
Also I reiterate my point, currently Ant has not been charged.

I think maybe the ITV Continuity Announcer should say what happened.
Already the world and his wife know what happened, by the 31st I should think the news will have reached other planets ! There's no need to say anything, is there ?
The Sun:
SHOCK AS DEC IGNORES ANT’S WOES, RUTHLESSLY TAKES OVER SHOW
It's absolutely disgraceful that the tabloids do this. I've quoted a similar headline in the This Morning thread, referring to how Phillip and Holly addressed the issue yesterday, which was taken way out of context as well.

Ant has been charged with drunk driving. Breaking from the BBC:

It has already become much more of an ensemble show over the last couple of years anyway. It'll be odd for sure but hopefully they can find a little bit of humour in the situation without appearing to laugh it off.
Forgetting about Ant for a minute I think it is probably the right call for Dec too. It gives him something to focus on and I'm sure as well as doing it for his staff he wants to make sure Ant has a career to come back to as well.
Short recorded message from Dec in an empty studio at the start. Then it’s dealt with and then show starts.
It will obviously be more of an ensemble show with Dec leading things and probably throwing to Scarlett / Stephen for some segments.

The case has been active since he was arrested.
However when a charge is made it changes what can be discussed.
He was charged this evening and will appear at Wimbledon Magistrates Court on April 4. The case is now sub judice and should not be discussed here or elsewhere.

ITV did actually commission another series of My Kind of Music after the event, and was only cancelled after that due to poor ratings, so to be fair to ITV, they did give him another chance.

STV never broadcast that series.
