The name will be unchanged.

Short recorded message from Dec in an empty studio at the start. Then it’s dealt with and then show starts.

This isn't Blue Peter and Dec isn't Lorraine Heggessey. I definitely can't see them going with that. I can see the show opening relatively normally (minus Dec going down the stairs) and then Dec saying his piece at the start with applause from the audience then on with the show.

I wouldn't say it's completely unlikely, that's how they dealt with a contestant being ejected from The X Factor for bullying a few years a go. Pre-recording it at least means there's less chance of him getting emotional, get the delivery just right etc.

Gosh, I don't think that would be a good idea. Talk about a buzz killer. Plus that wouldn't be it over and done with because no doubt the audience would give Dec a lot more applause/standing ovation at the start of the show and he would need to acknowledge that somehow.

He would've just acknowledged it! It's an elephant in the room and needs to gotten out of the way before show show kicks off whether it's a buzz kill or not. Let's not forget the seriousnes of why he's missing in the first place. There's sympathy for him but the same audience wouldn't have the same sympathy for any of the random no names who put kids in hospital like that this week. It would be more a case of pitchforks and torches than cheers and best wishes. The hypocrisy of it all is quite staggering really. Their best, and only option as far as I can see, is a simple pre title acknowledgement. "Poor Ant", titles then just get on with it as normal with no further mention of him.

Lets just remember that Ant still HAS NOT been charged with drink driving. Until he has, we need to be careful what comments are made.

This is exactly the issue. He's in rehab because he was (suspected) of drink driving and crashing into a car with a child inside. A lot of people have turned on him because of that, regardless whether or not they're considering his mental wellbeing, and it makes for a situation where there isn't really a right answer. Well wishes from presenters are going to clash with some viewers arguing "what about the little girl?" Even pulling the show completely is going to cause problems.

I still can't help but compare to this to Michael Barrymore's scandal. Yes, a body was found on his property, though he has never been found guilty of directly causing his death. AIUI, ITV washed his hands of him completely because his drug habits conflicted with his family friendly image, and he was pretty much ITV's pride and joy back then. They even turned their back on Matthew Kelly in light of sex abuse allegations that he was ultimately cleared of. I have to wonder whether the lack of a snap decision over Ant is a knock-on effect of ITV's over-reliance on Ant & Dec, or whether they're afraid of breaking apart their happy ITV family that they're so keen on pushing.

You just know the 31st March Easter episode will attract a huge audience. They have been getting 8-9 million each week so far, I guess that will rocket possibly up to 12 million for the Easter weekend show.

*Silly question alert* Will the show still be branded "Ant and Dec's"on the last two shows or will Dec just refer the show to Saturday Night Takeaway?

Can’t help but feel a little perspective is needed here — overnights have been in the 7.3 million range, with a consolidated figure of around 8 million. The chances of the next episode rating at 12 million is highly unlikely indeed.

I think maybe the ITV Continuity Announcer should say what happened. It would be a good idea or maybe mention it briefly at the start of the show.

Already the world and his wife know what happened, by the 31st I should think the news will have reached other planets ! There's no need to say anything, is there ?
