Pretty sure it's a product placement deal.

Universal basically have two choices - give people their free holiday without the onscreen publicity, or withdraw the holiday and take all the negative publicity.

I suspect the winners will still go to Florida, but what I suspect will happen is ITV will compensate Universal.

It's where they are at their best imo but I think IAC could probably survive 1 year without Ant & Dec if he's going to be out that long. They're not my cup of tea but if ITV want to play it safe Holly & Phil seem the most obvious choice for a temporary replacement. They're an established double act, popular and in house. Plus the people who prefer This Morning with Eamon & Ruth get a bonus too.

Surely the onus is just as much on ITV as it is with Universal?

If ITV decide to not air the finale show, they've broken their part of the deal. Therefore Universal are just as much within their right to make ITV foot the bill of the cost of all these holidays if they do not get the promised airtime.

And given the loss of revenue from the unbroadcast editions of SNT from advertising, competition entries and company sponsorship in Win the Ads as well as Suzuki who sponsor the show, it's all going to prove quite costly.

Indeed if the trip does not go ahead, that would also make the advertised prize for its competition null and void and surely they would have to provide full refunds for the entries. I believe the daytime shows had also run their own competition for a place on the plane too so they'd need to be refunded too.

ITV are surely going to be working overtime the next few days on what the repercussions are whatever decision is taken with the series and finale programme in particular.

I think needless to say if SNT does return for a new series next year in some capacity, the finale 'spectacular' will be something that will not make a return that's for sure.

On the flip side though they're not paying Ant (and possibly Dec) for three weeks, so will probably be in profit.

The flights were provided by Virgin Atlantic.

They will also save money by not having to rig up and broadcast a live show from Florida

Yes it will be costly, but ITV have a few quid, they can cover it.

Americans are very publicity risk adverse.

Universal might not want their name linked to someone who’s been involved in a suspected drink related road accident involving a young child.

There will be contracts, every eventuality will be covered, there are loads of reasons why the show might not have gone ahead, there could have been bad weather, a major disaster, breaking news, it isn’t just an agreement done over a handshake and the back of a fag packet. I don’t know what point people are trying to make.

I wonder how many places they've actually given away considering they're now half a series short anyway, even at £5,000 a person (very generous and probably way over the top for a week at Universal!) 200 people would set back ITV a million quid which is pocket money to them.

I don't want Ant back on screen until 2019 (in a good way), the problem with him coming back during IAC is the fact he did that last year so it would just look awkward for the same to happen again this year, last year they managed to quickly reference it with a joke which I don't think they would get away with another year!

If Ant gets convicted, he could even be banned from the US, which would definitely put the kibosh on it in future.

Well if that happened they wouldn’t do it then.

This thread has gone a bit Digital spy now, how about dealing in facts not irrelevant if this and if that then that and that might happen.

That doesn't necessarily mean they couldn't another big finale somewhere abroad next year. It doesn't have to take place in the USA. Remember their first big finale overseas was on a cruise ship in Spain in 2016. Not as big as showcasing a major US theme park resort for the finale perhaps, but it was still a very successful show as I recall.
