Rather surprised that this weeks episode has been cancelled, I would've been less surprised if they had simply replaced Ant with someone like Holly Willoughby for the week.
I'm trying to work out what the equivalent suggestion would have been in the past...
Eric Morecambe has a heart attack and gets replaced by Mavis Nicholson?
So the revised schedule for Saturday has now been released by ITV. The Voice will run in SNT slot from 7.00pm until 9.00pm. Through the Keyhole will run from 9.00pm until 10.05pm.
On sponsors pulling out and the like, surely Sazuki must be mulling over their involvement with Ant and Dec given the nature of the incident. They sponsor SNT, but the deal goes beyond that into adverts with the two similar to the Morrisons deal a few series ago.
On Dec presenting with someone else, I think if there is anything it would be in the SM:tv era. Whilst I don't remember there being any episodes with Dec sans Ant, there must surely be a link or two with just Dec and Cat on CDUK. A technicality but I wonder if there is one out there
It’s in my mind that Dec has presented alone before, but I might be those comedy skits on I’m a Celeb where one of them will walk off that is clouding my memory.
Not trying to bang Cat Deeley's drum, but if she were presenting the final two episodes with Dec, and throw in 'er Atomic Kitten and Westlife, it'll be the SMTV revival wrapped up.
How about Little and Large take over the last two shows with Stephen?
Or without Stephen - that'll be a great idea. Or perhaps Sam and Mark and Dick and Dom can fight for it - let either of those pairs host for a week and viewers will be begging for the return of Ant and Dec.
Will be interesting to see if The Voice benefits from taking the slot on Saturday - I thought it would be bought forward but only to 8pm with the filler airing at 7pm instead. The week after The Voice goes live and currently only gets a 90 minute slot. I think there are only 8 acts in the live show so they could always double it's running length and let each act perform twice.
They presented solo briefly on I'm a Celeb in 2016, there is a video on the link.
I remember that feeling very bizarre at the time given they’d never presented solo. The final two episodes will certainly feel very odd with just Dec, even if he is paired with someone else. No doubt the next airing will be the highest rated in many years.
I'm struggling to imagine a scenario in which the show comes back to end the series.
As pointed out before, we're talking about a show with stuff like the "happiest minute of the week", where the entire thing is set up as a party, where Ant and Dec are absolutely central to it. And we're talking about putting the sponsors in a very difficult position.
The dull, bureaucratic answer is to can the series and review things after that. Sometimes, the dull bureaucratic answer is the right thing to do.
