I don't understand how people think guest hosts would work. It's not This Morning where the hosts are interchangeable as the items aren't reliant on the host. Ant and Dec themselves are core to everything that happens on that show and giving the job to somebody else would be a terrible idea, not least because the whole show should be tainted by "x is only here because Ant is in rehab". Imagine having that on your mind during The Happiest Minute of the Week. Could you really expect Stephen Mulhern to carry off his "everybody loves me" act when he knows he's only there because the host crashed his car? It'd be in such poor taste.

Mullhern could stand in, he is on the show anyway and he is well liked by the audience. Also how does this affect BGT, I know the early episodes are recorded but if he is not well by the live final week in May then again who would step up

I imagine they could use Stephen for BGT, or even Cat Deeley or another host and Dec (if he still wants to host). Ant & Dec aren't as integral to BGT as they are to SNT.

I would guess that a lot longer than 2 months in rehab is needed this time, so the chances of being back in time for the BGT live shows are slim - it also wouldn't look great to kick off another series of IAC with Ant just back from rehab again - 2019 is probably the earliest we'll next see him now in my opinion.

In my head I can see them airing the audition footage from BGT as normal, maybe with a note about what has gone on, then Stephen Mulhern taking over the live shows, I doubt Dec will want to be involved. Not sure who would then take over More Talent though.

Last time it all seemed quite manipulated by the PR team so everything just about managed to fit around the summer break between their shows, this time feels like a bit of a cry for help by Ant.

BGT live shows seems more straightforward, Stephen Mulhern will already be in the studio, so could present with Dec if Dec doesn't go it alone. If Dec can't / won't present without Ant then BGT becomes Stephen's show this series.

A bit of a problem for ITV, they've put all their entertainment eggs in one basket somewhat.

I think that in the long term they'll be back on TV as before. The thing about Ant & Dec is that they're almost universally loved and admired by their viewers and those in the business, something very unusual in a usually cynical industry. That will help them immensely

Will be interesting if, as speculated, Ant and Dec aren't back on screen - together - until this time next year, who will win the NTA? Definitely opens up the opportunity for someone else. Surely they can't win from just 3 episodes of SNT.

I wonder if ITV will be saying anything before The Voice on why SNT isn't on. Like an Announcement or maybe the Head of Entertainment of ITV will say something to the camera.

BIG difference, Jamie Carragher was just being his normal healthy self, Ant isn't a will pearson, Yes he should get a kick up the backside for doing something silly but he still need some help .

Stop with this ridiculous poor poor unwell Ant sob story. It's not a valid excuse! Drink driving isn't something only unwell people do! only arrogant people do it. Again, I worked in mental health for 6 years and you can't just use the term as a get out of jail free card. The first thing people are taught is they still have to take account for their actions. It might sound cold and harsh but it's reality. It's true that If Ant was a footballer, or anyone else you didn't like, the nation would be baying for his blood regardless of whether he was a "well person" or not. It's also worth noting Ant has been nicked before for speeding and was handed a driving ban.

No, no and no, I never said it was a valid excuse I even SAID "Yes he should get a kick up the backside for doing something silly" I never said he should not have to take account for his actions.

The point was this, Ant clearly not in a great place: should he get punished for stupid things? YES Should he get help? YES? Is there a connection between the two? YES...but still need a kick up the back side. Jamie Carragher was just being a stuck up arrogant pick.

The point I was trying to make in my original post 623058 is that This Morning ignored it and if it was someone else especially from outside ITV they probably would mention it, I was not trying to belittle Ant McPartlin as I am massive fans of Ant & Dec as I grew up watching them on SMTV Live and indeed SNT in any way nor dismiss mental health issues. Apologies if any offence was caused and apologies for changing the direction of this discussion.

I would expect all you'll hear is "Now on ITV, earlier than in some listings, it's The Voice."
