I read today that Lorraine Heggessey has commisioned "brand new" old shows to dominate the Saturday night schedules.
The future of Saturday night on BBC1 could look something like this:
6.00pm Paul O'Grady's Generation Game
7.00 Dr Who
8.00 Lottery Show
8.30 Casualty
9.20 Graham Norton's Saturday Night
10.10 BBC News
10.30 Match of the Day
What do other's think about this speculative schedule? I think it would be good to have back to back watchable shows like this.
They also have to make room for Bruce Forsyth's Strictly Come Dancing, Saturday Night with Jonny and Denise and of course a vehicle for Cilla Black. Aswell as Casualty and Parkinson, it seems entertainment on BBC1 is going to be strong for a couple of years.
All these programmes are only being made as PILOTS where the best will reside in the actual Saturday night primetime schedule.
Some of them stink of desperation.
Cmon - do we really want to see Cilla back on our screens - with THAT voice and THOSE awful catchphrases? TV has moved on and it's great that ITV has ditched all these has-beans.
I think Saturday night schedules should be as follows:
6:00 pm - BBC NEWS
6:15 pm - BBC Regional News Magazines
6:20 pm - Strictly Come Dancing
7:00 pm - Dr Who
7:30 pm - Saturday Night LIVE (with Johnny & Denise)
7:59 pm - Lottery Update
8:00 pm - Casualty
9:00 pm - Blockbuster Movie
10:00 pm - BBC NEWS
10:15 pm - Movie continues
10:45 pm - Parkinson
11:30 pm - BBC SPORT Review of the Day
12 midnight - National Anthem
12:01 am - BBC NEWS 24
Variety, no non-sense, as well as continuity in News times from weekdays.
12 midnight - National Anthem
12:01 am - BBC NEWS 24
No no - more like this
11.57.40 - National Anthem followed by News 24 Sting.
11.58.30 - BBC NEWS 24 (with full countdown at start).
Absolutely...i totally agree with you.
P.S. i think that the National Anthem should be played in its 1952 full version every night at 12 midnight. Some may say its sad, but its BBC ONE - THE ONE!
