It was an absolute mess yesterday. I thought it was originally going to be Genaro only, which may have worked slightly better . The person who booked Jamie deserves an award, as he kept it from being a wash out.
Hopefully, once they have gone through the list of guest presenters, they will whittle down the list for another round of shows and then decided on a new host.

I think having a series of guest presenters works in stopping people instantly comparing them to James Martin.

I wonder if Jamie being a guest with those two "presenting" was a happy accident or it was always planned that Jamie would take over a bit? It's quite rare for the guest to be a chef rather than a celebrity from another genre.
It also looked very planned for the guest chefs to do some of the presenting, such as the guy talking about the wines at the end, and the recipe segments seemed to be them interviewing the hosts rather than vice versa.
Whether that was always the plan or the result of a rehearsal that was even more of a car crash than what went out I couldn't say.

Jamie is a good friend of Gennaro, so that is probably part of his appearance, but perhaps a little bit of backup just in case also?
If this is the case, it begs the question why they asked them to host if they thought it was going to go wrong. Entertainment only rather than looking for a new host?

Or did they really want Jamie to host but contractually he could only be a guest, officially?

Matt Tebbutt presented for a second time last week also. There seems to be some kind of revolving door rota at the moment.
In my mind, Tebbutt is the natural successor to James Martin if they are ever going to return to a full-time presenter. I hope they're not going down the Have I Got News For You route of having guest presenters every single week.
I do wonder whether the ratings have been down since James Martin left.
After all the various car crashes and wooden performances I see they had RTE's Donal Skehan back for a second time this morning.
I wonder if the BBC are about to sign him up full time.
Not sure he'd want to commit to it full time though.

Didn't even make sense for the BBC to air it this morning with Trooping the Colour at 10.15am. At a time when they're supposed to be saving cash I just don't see the logic in squeezing in an episode with a guest host when the cost could have been completely avoided by continuing Breakfast through to 10am as normal and then either airing a short filler (I'm sure they have 15-minute versions of Nigel Slaters shows for example) or just beginning the Trooping the Colour coverage slightly early.

The Sun continues its anti-BBC campaign, claiming that Saturday Kitchen ratings have collapsed since James Martin's departure - something the BBC press statement here addresses. Ratings have fallen - but only by 0.1m (1% viewing share). The Sun was comparing James Martin's very last edition - which got a very high figure - with subsequent editions presented by the guests, which returned to usual levels.

Really annoys me the BBC even respond to these type of articles. Yes, I've always felt they need to defend themselves more but not against such stupidity. The BBC don't even give the biggest reason for the discrepency - Saturdays episode aired an hour earlier than usual, something of course The Sun didn't mention.
