It goes to show digital TV is not the way forward. Who would want to watch Watch when it is a pay-only service. Besides, I predict the digital switchover happens - by the way, where is the public's say on this? - it would give services, Sky in particular, to make all their channels pay-to-view which will further alienate viewers. Let's look at Sky, shall we? Their Sports, Movies, Music, Documentaries are all pay-to-view not forgetting their Sky Box Office, when it shows sport events such as boxing and wrestling, whereas with old terrestrial, fair enough you pay for the licence fee but ITV, Channel 4 and Five cost nothing to the viewer. The channels you get for free. And terrestrial is being put in the proverbial dustbin. Why?!
I'm not sure you have an adequate grasp on what digital switchover means.
The existing terrestrial services will continue to be free to view through an adaptor, however more services and channels will be available to the viewer.
Sky have always had a subscription service - nothing will change with regard to that.
The licence fee continues to be applicable.
ITV, C4 and Five are not "free", they are paid for by advertising - a cost which is added to the products you buy at the supermarket - each and every basketful.
"Terrestrial" is not being put "in the dustbin". Analogue services over terrestrial will change to digital over terrestrial.
There's no doubt that being on a digital only channel hasn't been a success for R&J, but that may also be down to them moving the show around in the schedules - that's certainly the reason I stopped watching.
