I might be wrong about this but I think the TVS archive may have ended up as part of the MTM programme archive after they lost the franchise. I guess, at the end of the day, MTM is a better known international brand than TVS.

I think Saban did end up with old TVS programmes because CH4 aired a 'pop stars behaving badly' type programme (the exact name escapes me at the moment) about 18 months ago which featured Iggy Pop simulating anal sex on a large teddy bear duing a live performance on Number 73. That material was credited to Saban.

For some reason I seem to think that Disney may have bought Saban's programme library which I guess would have included the TVS stuff. Maybe no-one realises they have it!

Correct - Power Rangers videos are distributed by Buena Vista instead of Fox Kids Video now. That's because Saban was owned by Fox, who sold Fox Kids and Fox Family Channel to ABC - Fox Family Channel was renamed as ABC Family Channel, but Fox Kids kept it's identity. Saban as a company no longer exists, and Haim Saban hasn't been involved in Power Rangers since season 7 - Lost Galaxy. Season 9 (Time Force) was when Disney took over AFAIK - title sequences stopped saying SABAN'S before the programme name. But since neither Fox Kids UK nor GMTV show the credits, there's no way to find out without buying the videos.

BVS Entertainment took over production of Power Rangers partway through Time Force, it was still Saban at the first (or rather, 'MMPR Productions', a subsidiary company created to produce Power Rangers and Saban's other sentai-derived shows). It was still copyrighted to Saban Entertainment until partway through the series, then changed to 'Disney Enterprises', before changing to BVS Entertainment when Wild Force started.

Anyone know quite what the deal is with Fox Kids and Power Rangers credits? They don't show them on the earliest episodes, but most of season 1 and the first few episodes of season 2 always come with credits intact. It would seem that they've actually edited them out from the tapes as a matter of course (instead of it being down to timing as it was on GMTV - some episodes came with credits and some didn't) but for some reason they've missed out a whole batch of episodes.

Fox Kids don't show credits at all usually - it isn't just Power Rangers.

Sentai - I assume that's live action Anime - i.e. Power Rangers, Beetleborgs, Masked Rider, VR Troopers? (I think Power Rangers is the only one left now, the anime cartoon Digimon took the budget previously used by the other three shows I guess).

Also, Digimon season 3 dates from 2001, the same year as Time Force, so I guess the same thing (the change from Saban to Disney, then BVS for season 4) happened to their credits as well?

I don't think they did, I knew they had Mary Tyler Moore Televison (MTM) but it was that which lead to the money losing, but I think all of TVS was bought by The Family Channel about a year after it closed.

Doesn't Saban own The Family Channel?
Saban is owned itself by Fox Kids, which is part of Disney. Flextech owned the UK version of TFC, the US version is now ABC Family, and used to be Fox Family. So, yes, I think you're right. Haim Saban doesn't own The Family Channel any more - because he doesn't even own Saban!

Whilst we're on the subject of a single ITV company...

Once GMG and Carlton Comm have merged, will the remaining regions soon follow? (e.g. "ITV plc" make a hostile takeover of UTV and Channel TV, and buy Scottish and Grampian off SMG, or whatever).

Wouldn't be a surprise - except they'd be more likely to buy SMG outright, not just the two regions. If they buy Channel, I reckon Channel and Meridian will merge.

I've done a little bit of research...

The International Family Channel bought the rights to the TVS archive in 1993. Saban and News Corp bought TIFC and renamed it the Fox Family Channel. Disney bought it off them and now, as you say it's ABC Family. When they bought it, they also bought Saban Entertainment.

So, the TVS archive is now owned by Disney.

I think it's more likely that SMG will just sell the regions to Carlton/Granada.

Re: SMG - each to his own opinion - we'll just have to wait and see who's right, won't we?

Re: Family Channel - my basic point was accurate then. Here's a screenshot of the current logo, from The TV Network Extravaganza...

It's not really a case of having an opinion about it. It's a case of weighing up the facts and coming to a conclusion. I can't imagine that Carlton & Granada are interested in SMG's other assets. It would be a waste of money to buy the whole company when SMG are willing to sell the regions.

Ginger Media? Virgin Radio? Why wouldn't they want them? Ginger would be folded anyway, what does it still make? Two shows for Five and that's it!

Analysts believe that SMG will be broken up, and the individual assets sold. Carlton & Granada are not going to want to buy a debt-ridden company when they can buy the individual assets which they require. (Note that SMG are about £350m in debt.)
