Well the new DOG is indeed, intrusive.

Just seen an ident (no caps I'm afraid) - young girl just stood there, with the S4C logo coming in from the right. Rather dull...

Reminds me of the previous ITV corporate logo - just a bit bland, characterless and not very distinctive.

But makes a perfect app icon.

Did they ever learn from ITV?
Having seen parts of this new look, it resembles the exact type of thing that gets ridiculed on the Gallery over here every week.

Apparently it's all linked to a revamp of the Clic on demand service...

...the live stream on which I can't get to work on either Firefox or Safari? Really liked the quirkiness of the last look, will be a shame if that's been lost for more bland wallpaper.

Oh and this:

That's a shame, after initially thinking the last set were a strange replacement for some of the best presentation ever, they really grew on me. The Pier ident in particular was great.

I thought some of the old idents were pretty dull but arty. Since they were all landscapes I think they were seen to be impersonal. They ended up reusing 2 or 3 of the same idents which becomes quite dull. The ident music was also ambient and insipid. (I love the Lines music but most idents are now squeezed in fairly quickly between promos, slides and menus so I think they need to be punchier).

For a channel that has reintroduced a lot of music programmes I think they needed slightly more exciting and recognisable idents (although I haven't seen them yet). I think it's worth saying that since they have no money, the budget for the new brand and presentation was a lot less.

They seemed to lose their way with the 2007 brand, certainly post-DSO. A lot of the original quirkiness of the package was watered down and by the end, the surviving idents from the original set (almost all of the later additions, including the speech-sensitive ones, were withdrawn ages ago) were the last link to all that - plus the music was regularly faded right down almost immediately for the voiceovers.

Will be interesting to see what direction they take with this new package. Meanwhile the EPG is still showing S4/C on Freeview - Sky never included the forward slash anyway.

Interesting slow-motion, long, silent break bumpers.

All the idents I've seen so far have been of men in hard hats. Surely they have some better ideas coming up? The slice across the screen is quite a good idea for a consistent motif across slides/idents etc but you could possibly make more use of it by having an apparent or real split screen (a bit like BBC Four ).

Yes - in the later years, I recall Buggies, Balloons, Frisbees and Pier getting plenty of airings while others including Rides and Festival had entirely disappeared from the set... Seemed a shame and a waste, as they actually were all really good sequences.

I took a similar initial view... It could never have matched the visual impact and range of the Dragons, but it came out in 2007 as a very strong idea in itself (and with a lot of potential that actually wasn't greatly expanded upon). Really liked the take on inanimate objects & people being moved by an invisible force, shot with the old tricks of wires, chroma key etc. Chairs and Trolleys were probably the two favourites of mine; I think they both lasted the distance. Incidentally, I think the Christmas looks that alluded to this idea were the most effective as well.

The audio-responsive phase was a really interesting move at the time and I think it helped further set S4C apart from the crowd; a few of the idents (Cleaners, Lights, and Sparks spring to mind - the latter I thought had a great fitting soundtrack) worked especially well. Although, there was the bizarre 'Ice Cream Van' which looked like a demo for the tech and honestly seemed like a joke design - yet it was actually used on-air...

What disappoints me about this new look so far, is that the idents don't have any distinctive visual quirk or characteristic of the sort which defined both the previous concepts as a whole. The result looks quite generic with seemingly nothing connecting the scenes.

First impression of the graphics is that they look nice, with the diagonal split as a consistent feature. They definitely take longer to animate-on, though - perhaps a little too long.
