WHAT'S THE LATEST ON THE BBC1 BALLOON

Hi

Just wondering what the latest was on the future of the BBC1 Balloon Ident.

It's about to burst.

when, and what's likely to replace it?

Isn't the latest date rumoured to be this Autumn? Although I could be wrong.

Does that mean just a replacement for the balloon, or a completely new BBC logo?

I take it then you mean when the BBC's autumn programme schedule kicks off then. So probably September or October

I wouldn't expect any new BBC ONE idents (IF indeed they are going to change at all) until next year; any relaunch would probably coincide with the launches of BBC THREE and BBC FOUR which are highly unlikely to start this year.

And the BBC logo itself definitely WON'T be changing!

I'm sure the BBC ONE balloon won't be replaced until next autumn, when it will have done them a good 5 years of service! It would be a waste to change them this year after only four years when they cost £500 000 to make - and I would think that they don't want to relaunch at the same time as ITV1 gets new idents.

The 'new' boss of BBC One:
a) thinks that Ian Wright is a TV host (or, in Ian Wright speak: 'finks be Ian Wright a is VT host')
b) thought that 'Joy of Text' was a good idea
c) wants to scrap £1/2m worth of branding, which is familliar to a lot of people!

Isn't it up to Greg Dyke. I've heard he loves the balloons.
If the idents are going to change they are sure to be rubbish. Lorraine Hessesly (the bbc1 boss) used to be in charge of CBBC and the've had rubbish black and yellow idents/animations since the BBC changed their logo.
The new CBBC boss, who was the man behind SM:TV, must be able to see more than too colours because their changing idents/animations later this year.
