Who was the guy that presented Beat the Teacher?

It was Howard Stableford, wasn't it? I think Peter Simon from bid-up.tv was warm-up comedian for it for a while.....

; perhaps drop andrew (hes on too much at the mo; and they're not too short of presenters!)
He is good though, the double act with what do you call her is better than a few months ago when loads of CBBC Channel faces were presenting on CBBC ONE. Did he just fall in to presenting CBBC or what?

No I'm not, my suspicions have proved to be correct - take a look at the 'Beat the Teacher' description at this URL: http://tv.cream.org/arkb.htm

Perhaps CITV should be run in the old Sunday format (2 sets back?), with back to back programmes (perhaps with a voiceover on the next silde).
Or they could do CITV Cinema again...

Slightly off-topic - What happned to the studio which was somtimes used on the last junction on Fridays, where someone would sing over the long credits?

do you mean recently? they're still in the same studio (i think) - but im guessing they lost a bit of space when central news relaunched in 2001?

i think the last time citv moved studio was a few years ago when they moved from the smaller central studio with the orange/purple floor tiles?

Probably quite a while ago now, the last time I saw it was around 2000, but they rarely used it anyway.
EDIT: It was just a black studio with a raised stage (and a CITV logo IIRC).

Taken from the Birthday Show at the start of the year. IIRC it was used alot when CITV first relaunched in 1998, every Friday, but the eventually went.

Never mind Why Don't You..? - what about Play Chess?! 10 minutes of dullness with William Hartnell that made you wander off and do anything else. There was also Silas, a dubbed German series about a boy and a horse. That followed the success of Heidi, which has never been repeated anywhere (probably cos there were about 60000 episodes...)

I think you mean Bill Hartston. IIRC Heidi ran to about 26 episodes; shown in two stints mid-1981, and repeated in Summer 1986.

Are you sure? Wasn't it someone called Paul?

The first BTT presenter was Howard Stableford.

oh yes. that'll have been from the small studio days wont it? i think i remember citv borrowing the fantastic central news set quite often back then. must have been a logistical nightmare.

There were three Beat The Teacher presenters (in series, not in parallel):

1. Howard Stableford (of Tomorrow's World fame)
2. Bruno Brookes (of accidentally playing the sweary version of "Killing In The Name" on the top 40 show fame)
3. Paul Jones (of "Uh-huh, it was the Maaaan-freds!" fame).
