There has been a "Carlton Production for London" capture on thetvroom.com for a while now...

In that case, maybe Carlton (London) have been varying between the ambiguous prodcap and the London-mentioning one on local programming since September (?). Such inconsistent behaviour would hardly be a surprise, coming from Carlton... Rolling Eyes

Earlier this year, the Thursday evening show "The Tube" for ITV1 London had an endcap of "Carlton for London."

It's really very simple.

The caption "A Carlton Production for (region)" appears on regional/ITV1 Wales shows

The caption "A Carlton Production" - on its own - appears on network (as in entire network) shows.

This is how it has been ever since the rebrand.

Granada continue their practice of "A (company) Production" with a GR/N/D/ tag at the bottom for any regional or network commission. As to which (company) is stated, that's down to their creative accounting Twisted Evil

Programmes made by the Granada Group not for an ITV commission (but which will still often get shown on ITV as an independent buy-in) will have "A GR/N/D/ Production".

But using your analogy - ITV1wales now uses Carlton style production captions but it doesn't read

A Carlton Production for Wales

it correctly reads

A Carlton Production for ITV1Wales

So surely the third channel in London is called ITV1 London therefore the end caption should read

A Carlton Production for ITV1London?

You WOULD think so, wouldn't you.
But "ITV1 Wales" is a channel whereas "ITV1 for Central England" is not - therefore the "for Central England" tag is a regional identifier, whereas "ITV1 Wales" is a reference to a channel name.

OK, it doesn't make much sense, but I didn't invent the system, I'm just explaining it!

That's of course if the ITV-1 Wales designation lasts much longer.

No doubt they will wait until ITV-1 Scotland comes on board before they remove it completely.

Apparently the usage of the ITV-1 Wales identifier is quietly being reduced.

For your interest, I made this capture for TV Ark from the show "Ask Ken", transmitted on ITV1 on 19/09/02, a few weeks prior to the change in end board styles following the ITV1 relaunch.

I find it very hard to believe that they'll ever go for a totally singular (i.e. UK-wide, as opposed to England-wide) ITV1 identity. I say that because BBC One has separate continuity for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland all the time, so I would suspect that ITV1 will do the same. (And - also just like BBC One - the London-based continuity won't be "... England" branded because - and this is the same reasoning for BBC One's policy - it's also the default fallback for the whole UK).

True enough except for ITV-1 following the example of the BBC, since the BBC is actually introducing more regional variations, whereas ITV-1 is on the centralist pathway.

And do not forget that viewers in the south of the Kingdom of Scotland already have to endure the accursed ITV-1 London based continuity instead of Scottish continuity.

Which is typical of one of those ITV doomsday style posts, but the thing is, ITV have reduced their regionalness down, but never below the level of the BBC. There's no particular reason why you should think that they will except for guesswork and predictions

But again, BBC1 have 17 variations, ITV1 about 24!
