Lovely studio, horrific titles.

Watching Tonga v Georgia - Nice to see that the graphics team read my posts.

Also that thank goodness the Sipi Tau was treated with more respect than the Fijians got (had it been the haka that had got that treatment there would have been holy war from the NZRU).

Some of the ITV break stings are odd. One oddly reminded me of the Big Breakfast!

Jon Champion is commentating on Tonga v Georgia, I'm not sure I've heard him do rugby before.

The graphics are hideous, very dated and it's a shame after having very creative graphics for past major football championships and rugby world cups ITV Sport just gone for an adapted version of the world feed graphics. I think these are worse than the 2011 graphics for the studio bits.

To be honest though apart from F1, the Euros and the Champions League international competition branded graphics are usually woeful.

Really a shame ITV haven't been allowed to create the whole set.

On the other hand the set is lovely.

ITV are the host broadcasters so it looks like they're responsible for it all (or at least commissioning it). The in-match graphics are OK IMO, but just don't like the full screen graphics much - the background is a bit bland and seems a really lazy effort nowadays when the team sheet only has names and not images. Agree they also feel a bit dated.

I'd also rather they returned to the 2003/07 option of integrating the logo in the scorebar rather than having the separate DOG. This might be the last year with that logo thanks to the IRB rebranding as World Rugby.

Great ratings last night - 7.56m for the England v Fiji match, peaking at 9.26m.

Apparently TV3 in Ireland missed the anthems of South Africa vs Japan before the start of their game today. It was missed because of Matt Cooper asking questions about the rewritten rules of the TMO.

They are driving people crazy with the unorthodox way they are taking ad breaks - cutting straight from the match at HT/FT to the Land Rover sponsorship bumper, then running one or two ads, then going back to the studio for some very short comments, then taking they break proper! Obviously designed to stop people running for their cup of tea/pint at break time.

ITV can't win can they - ad breaks too long, ad breaks too short. I find them fairly irrelevent most of the time in rugby and football as everything other than the match is just filler - the BBC just offer a few minutes more. It's only when they cut off abruptly at the end of a match when you want to soak in the atmosphere the ads annoy me - but the BBC can be just as guilty when scheduling or injury time force their hand too.

Today showing too how important it is for an event like this for the entire tournament to be free to air - South Africa v Japan was a moment of sporting history which deserved the biggest audience possibly. I don't think though ITV were right to ditch the regional news - running 4-5 minutes late for the rest of the evening is much less of an issue than ditching bulletins nationwide. If they really had to ditch one surely axing the national news would make more sense given there will be a bulletin later in the evening.

Brekkie,

I am assuming that rdd is referring to TV3's coverage not ITV's.

I was watching some of the TV3 coverage in a pub in Camden earlier (I won't say which one, but the viewing card thinks it's in a box somewhere in Co Mayo) and I can see how that happened. Far too much waffle before the Ireland - Canada game earlier.

Talking of Tv3, the studio is far better looking than I was expecting. It's not the abysmal quality SD studio, and it's not a CSO job (which I was expecting), so where is it? Have they installed the set in the Sony HD studio over the green curtain, or are they using a hired studio for the duration of the tournament?
