.... and bang goes the investment as far as ITV is concerned, England out before the Knockout phase, the result of nightmares for the rights holders.

In what circumstances would they not have put the England match in Saturday peak?!
Great news for Wales. It's been fun being an Aussie for the night. Serves ITV and the tournament organisers right that next week they'll have a dead rubber in primetime having prioritised England v Uruguay over Australia v Wales.

It's the bigger match and even had England still been in the running at that point it would likely have influenced if they'd have gone through. As it is they've got a couple of minnows playing in primetime now.

Well they'd (ITV) probably rather have a dead rubber involving England than Wales v Australia, only a small minority of the English and Welsh viewing public are Welsh and tiny minority will be Australian, it's important to remember ITV aren't psychic so had no idea how the tournament would turn out like. It was also meant to be England's World Cup also so scheduling what was potentially a crunch match in primetime doesn't seem unreasonable.
It's a shame for rugby in the UK that England have gone out this early as it won't enjoy the prominence it might have done over the next few weeks had England gone further in the competition.
Although I'm sure the English will get behind any of the home nations that progress, in a way you never could get behind England Brekkie.

Yes they are. They thought that England would win all four of their matches.
Yeah right....

Although for the Quarters both the games from the Eng/Wal/Aus pool are at 4pm, with New Zealand v France or Ireland likely to be the 8pm game, and the other shunted to 1pm to clear the way for The X Factor and Downton.
For what it's worth I'd have preferred England to progress over Australia and their performance over the last few weeks doesn't reflect their performance over the last few years at all. Unlike the footballers who haven't achieved anything for generations the rugby team usually can back up the expectations, although surprisingly have only won the Six Nations once since the World Cup victory in 2003.
