It's Tonga fever in Auckland (from TVNZ)
It might sound a bit bad, "HUL", but it's nice once you get there.
The "CIL" is in fact the preferred lettering of the World Cup organizers now, sensibly. And congrats to the Cook Islands on their win:
Abbreviations news, Seven's scoreboard renders the Cook Islands as CIL
instead of the unfortunate abbreviation the organizers use. And which the Olympics use. And FIFA. And the ISO. And "COO" isn't even taken by any other country

Reminds me of ARS v HUL.

It's still Tonga fever in Auckland (from TVNZ & the
Tagata Pasifika
show)
Can some English people ruin this party?
Don't answer that
Mount Smart stadium might break its crowd record today. That attendance was set 10 years ago in the NRL finals, back when the TV scoreboards looked like
And may the best pres win.

While timezones are under discussion, 5am UK time is a strange choice for the semi-final kickoff. England were always likely to be playing in this game.
Even in NZ and Australia, the match could've easily been an hour or two later, and increased the audience everywhere. (Is the tournament getting that many viewers in the UK?)

Was just going to mention this in that thread - could have been given an evening kick off slot so it aired around 8am/9am in the UK.

Great game though, eh. (Highlights are here.)
DAVE WOODS after 72 minutes: "If you're just switching on and you're an England fan and you see this, you think... 'we're in trouble here!' ... I don't think I've ever heard such a moving reaction to such a meaningless try."
Ah Woodsy, you were this close to a Michael Fish moment.

Kickoff could've been 7am GMT, but no later - that's 8pm NZ summer time, anytime later's unusual. The 6pm start time worked brilliantly locally
people made a day of it, and the match will be great for Tongan rugby league, although it had no NZ free-to-air coverage outside of news clips (usual story). It was FTA in Australia.
I really meant BBC - are there figures for how many watched their live games?

On Premier Sports/Eir Sport 2? Probably not. Would love to know what their U.K. subscriber numbers are.

I believe it was scheduled to suit 7 and lead into their 6pm News.
It could easily have been held later, 6pm kickoffs are unusual in NZ unless it’s a Warriors game getting rare FTA treatment on a Sunday afternoon I’m Australia.
Thank goodness for Tonga’s fans or else the tournament would have flopped entirely.

Breakfast moved to BBC Two to 10:00 rather than reinstating the Saturday Mash-up simulcast.
Looking at the schedules it looks like the final has been bumped up to BBC One

What's the point in that?! Why couldn't they leave the BBC2 schedule alone and bump Breakfast to the News Channel like they do on a Sunday.
After the digital switchover, everyone has access to the News Channel therefore I don't see what the issue is.
