I'm losing faith in channels getting a "new name". For all stations will try, people still call five "channel 5". And forget ITV1, people still call it "ITV". Or "Tyne Tees TV". Or "Channel 3".
But now people don't think "five" is good enough?! Uh-oh... another relaunch? I hope not.
RTL, eh? Well, here's an idea, how about geting the blooming shows from it's German libary over here, you know, stuff like One piece that doesn't resemble cat sick.
Can't see Five changing its name personally, the only affect I can think of is that there maybe more programmes from TalkbackThames or FremantleMedia. RTL own these two strong Production arms and the RTL name is nowhere to be seen.
Plus pratically everyone who I know (and even myself) still call it Channel 5.
So? There are quite a few UK broadcasters that have the same name in diffrent countries: The US has quite a few 'Channel 4's and there are Kiss FM's, Capital Radios, Radio 1's and Radio 2's all over the world.
There's no problem in having an RTL5 in the UK..... no-one will get in confused with the one across the North Sea
I just hope that eventualy stuff liek Super RTL and the like comes to pass, that way, I think we might just get some fresh blood as far as good shows are concerned.
Besides, It might just lead to me being able to get the RTL germany channels on Sky without the dish fiddling, so it's all good.
"Five is expected to line up against rival bidders, including Channel 4 and ITV, for Flextech, the programming arm of cable operator Telewest, which is preparing to sell the business ahead of a merger with NTL, according to weekend newspaper reports."
"Five is the only UK terrestrial broadcaster with no multichannel services and is being tipped as a likely bidder for Flextech's assets, including Living TV and a 50% stake in UKTV, which operates channels including UKTV Gold and UKTV Food."
In reference to "Talkback Thames" will they eventually shorten the names, & if so what is more likely, It seems that the "Thames" brand is seen more on screen rather than "Talkback"
