This being RTÉ, nobody's actually being fired - but both Marty Whelan and Larry Gogan (who has worked for RTÉ since the 1960s) are losing their 2FM weekday slots. Homes for them will be found in the ever-increasingly-crammed weekend schedule.
Apart from Gerry Ryan (apparently management bent over backwards to keep him, despite a talk show having seemingly no place in a pop music station), and Nikki Hayes (who presumably there was no reason to move) the entire RTE 2FM weekday schedule is being reformatted.
New schedule:
6:00am 2FM Alarm Clock with Colm Hayes and Jim Nugent (replaces Early Show with Orla Rapple and Marty in the Morning)
9:00am The Gerry Ryan Show (no change)
12:00 noon Nikki Hayes (no change)
2:00pm Rick O'Shea (replaces Larry Gogan)
5:00pm Will Leahy (replaces Ruth Scott)
7:00pm Ruth Scott (replaces Rick O'Shea)
10:00 Damien Farrelly (loses 1 hour)
12:00 midnight Dan Hegarty (no change)
2:00am 2FM Replay (no change)
So a changing of the guard so to speak at 2FM, and aside from Gerry Ryan, all the old 2FM names - Gogan, Whelan, as well as those who had already left: Ian Dempsey, Tony Fenton, Gareth O'Callaghan, Dusty Rhodes and all the others who seemed to seemed to inhabit the 2FM schedule for what seemed like an eternity (certainly the best part of the 1988-2000 era) are all gone.

I bet RTE are monitoring these threads (TVForum and Boards) - every time we bitch about something it magically changes, from topics on "Seoige and O'Shea" to the news studio.
The new schedule looks OK for weekdays, apart from Colm and Jim in the morning - I can't stand their current show on FM104 - Click here and go to "The Strawberry Alarm Clock". Basically, 2fm will have a morning comedy show identical to Spin, FM104 and Today FM but with irritating in-house jingles and awkward silences. Get set for a a show presnted by 2 clones of Marty Whelan.
And it looks like weekends will just get worse...

Dusty Rhodes was on Atlantic 252 for a while before it closed...
The new schedule looks alright. Let's hope now they can give 2FM its OWN LOGO, better style news bulletins (Compare BBC R1 to 2fm - completely different), AND DROP "LIVING THE LIFE, LOVING THE MUSIC" !!!
