Do RTE have a decent non-RTE client base?

Nope Laughing

Shame really, Ireland's economy has taken a huge leap in the past few years and the population's growing again. You'd never think any of these things were happening though looking at RTE's output. And people complain about ITV! Razz

Not really noggin. Although they have decent facilites, their principal clients are largely home-grown - essentially production companies making programmes for RTÉ. The only recent example I can think of a fully independent letting was the renting of a major studio for TV3's recording of The Weakest Link. They don't have the facilites even remotely capable to do it themselves.

RTÉ used to have a decent Facilites website, but it's been down about four years, with little sign of a reinstatement. Perhaps the promotion of studio facilities at least in such a small market simply isn't worth it.

The only real commercial outfit RTÉ operate in respect of facilities is a post-production house in central Dublin - essentially an upmarket editing suite in a converted Georgian townhouse. Even then I'm not sure that they haven't sold it off by now.

I guess if RTÉ aren't aiming to market themselves agressively - and if there isn't much competition - then the need for a facilities website is not that great. Presumably the major clients who might be interested in bookin their studios know what the facilities are and so the need for a site is lessened...

Precisely. Indeed I suspect their previous site was born more out of that new media optimism of the late 90s, than any real commercial intent.

It must be noted though that while the historic connections with the site are enormous and I wouldn't like to see them move, RTÉ's Montrose campus is sited on the most expensive real estate in Ireland, and indeed Europe. They could generate multiple tens of mllions in selling off and relocating elsewhere, gaining ultra-advanced new facilites in the process. But their current location is so convenient, the site so historic, and the upheaval so enormous, that it probably isn't worth it. Especially in the current jittery property market.
