Well, The Panel is a sort of hybrid between Mock the Week , Loose Women and The Eleven O'Clock Show . Considering Dara O'Briain's popularity in the UK (mainly thanks to MTW ) an equivalent of The Panel might go down quite well. It'd certainly do better than Tonightly .

Suspect that because Dara does MTW that would probably preclude him from doing a UK version of The Panel? Don't want the same host doing two similar shows...

Watched a bit of Tonightly last night. Nice set... Err... Nice set...

Don't see why FAQ U wasnt brought back, i mean it was a better show, format and platform for comedians if it is all about a new generation, because from Tonightly the next generation is €%&#-ing rubbish.

I shall probably give it a view to see what it's like. I remember watching TARA on Sky analogue back in the day, and that was alright.

Well, we all know that that's a disaster (it's ending next week, I believe, and about time too - Play Your C*********s Right indeed.). It's a shame, because the format was promising.

The thing is that while MTW and The Panel share a few common features, Mock the Week is more in the style of Whose Line is it Anyway (indeed, it's produced by Dan Patterson and Mark Leveson, who were responsible for Whose Line ). The Panel is a bit more like News Knight with Trevor McDonald , and is more a parody of shows like Newsnight / Question Time than anything else. They both have a very distinctive individual style.

If they had Colin Murphy and Andrew Maxwell on the UK version then you're set basicially.

The Panel predates both NewsKnight and Mock the Week. Its' based on an Australian show, but the Irish version owes a lot to RTÉ's previous production Don't Feed The Gondalas, which was based on Have I Got News For You. The Panel will be back in the Autumn, but with another new presenter and on RTÉ One.

For the UK show which is closest to the Panel - look at BBC NI's The Blame Game, which is IMO very close to being The Panel.

It does predate both shows, but I was trying to find something to approximate it to for us Brits - in fact, there's no real equivalent to The Panel on UK tv.
