Just incase anybody is interested, TG4 has now started broadcasting widescreen which means that all mainstream Irish channels (including Channel 6) are now being broadcast in 16:9. TG4 seems to have introduced some new idents too - not completely different - the music and general theme is very similar.
Does anybody know when RTÉ One is due to relaunch?
TG4 have also changed their programme promo animation. Don't watch much TG4 but they've been using the same jingle on their idents since the 1999 relaunch.
Incidently, does their start-up sequence still go out? Basically an elongated version of the very first TnaG ident, they were still using it (in updated form) up to the "grid" look of 1999...
Well like you say i don't watch TG4 much at all so I don't know what happens in the morning. They had been testing TG4 in widescreen for a long time on satellite (about a month) but I think they made the switch properly last Monday. Nice to see them all in widescreen now. And I know I keep saying it but their weather graphics look even better now in 16:9!
All this commotion about BBC1's rebrand is getting me excited about RTÉ One's! Red Bee did do a great job in all fairness. Hopefully they'll do just as good a job for RTÉ.
I came across a montage in "The TV Room" of RTÉ One's idents from just before they were launched back on September 1st 2003. There's some good footage in there that was never used for idents at all. I'll be sad to see the current set going out the window because they were very well made considering they were in-house (I think). See the URL for "The TV Room" in the next post.

I hope its not necessary to clarify that it wasn't me who uploaded that onto Youtube! Apologies for posting the link here, TV Room - I didn't know that it had been pinched from your site. I have removed the URL.

Phen, not to worry. The current 'YouTube' craze appears to have resulted in a huge increase in websnatching. Very annoying for those of us who took the time and trouble to:
(a) record the material off-air in the first place
(b) encode and host the subsequent web video clip
Copyright on the material is not mine, no. However, the purpose of TV Room is to promote and educate the art of television branding. I have taken the trouble to transfer this material for viewing on another medium for the benefit of others. I also make every effort to ensure that the original designers/artists are credited, where such details are available to me.
What service do Websnatchers provide?
I'm not getting at anyone in particular, but there has been a significant increase in the promotion of material on YouTube on this forum and others like it in the recent past. My main issue is that on viewing much of this material, I find that it has been lifted from various pres sites and in some cases re-edited.
Support your dedicated pres sites and those who invest a lot of time and money to keep them running. Unless you're sure there's something genuinely unique on YouTube, please don't give these people the publicity they are so undeserving of.
The only small problem is with You Tube you can search for something and come up with a find like the afore mentioned clip. However, unless you happened to be looking at that specific page on The TV Room then you might not come across it. Not that I am condoning it but I think its hard for forumers and alike to tell if something is genuinly original or not unless they uploaded the content themselves.
RTE One will relaunch late October. RTE filmed loads of stuff in Greystones, Wicklow and passed it on to Red Bee.
I know they definately have footage of a woman making bread, a kid drawing/painting on a wall and a teenager searching for stuff in their room. It must be for either idents or another "Part of Life" thing.
Let's hope it's better than the news revamp and the ITV Network ...
