Yet again, Red Bee are inclined to just slap a logo on top various bits of footage that across idents have little to no consistency. Why do they do so? It's really uninspiring and dull.

Even their BBC1 effort (perhaps the best they've come up with) can't save them; in my eyes Red Bee should now give way to some other companies instead, so we can see what everyone else in this field has to offer.

I have to say the new idents are exactly what I expected. RTÉ ONE seems to have this chip on its shoulder about how they're targeting the 'older demographic' and as such, flashy things are left to RTÉ TWO. The idents themselves are nice. I agree with Phen about the DOG being flat and boring - but that's RTÉ... always playing it safe (except with 4:3 safe on NTL and Sky)

The marketing segments for upcoming programmes isn't too bad, but I have to ask, does anyone else have a problem seeing the day and time part of that graphic that comes up at the end??? White text on turquoise background?? I can't focus on it. If they just used a navy colour instead it would be easier to see.

I just think that it's ok. Nothing to go mad about. It seems like RTÉ ONE has given up really on the razzmatazz of the 1990s which saw fantastic idents from the Tower on RTÉ 2 and the 'portal look' for RTÉ news. Now it seems they're just lulling you from one programme to the next, with soft and monotonous idents.

I haven't seen the in-vision continuity yet - but maybe that's a good thing!!

I don't recall any mention of IVC in any of the press releases. Where did this news come from?

For me the problem with the new look is that nothing much seems to be happening - its just a piece of film with the logo on it, no animation whatsoever. The films are not that interesting IMO.

Other parts of the look are alright, but differenet, rather than either improved or disimproved, would be my first reaction. I think they should have kept the shimmering light in between the "RTE" and "ONE" - it kind of evoked the old St Bridget's Cross (which seems, like BBC ONE's globe, to be well and truly consigned to the scrapheap now).

Edit: And no, I haven't seen or heard any mention IVC on RTÉ One either...

I'm intrigued about all this talk of IVC. From where are ye all coming up with that idea?

Anyway, I noticed this on the 'writing' ident - seems quite obvious when you notice it. Why is the woman wearing a black top in this scene while her reflection in the mirror is clearly wearing a towel? A bit odd I'm sure you'll agree Confused ...

I thought for a minute you were going to say she was drawing an upside down penis. Which if you look at it, well.... it wouldn't be far wrong. Smile

I see your point, I take it that it was more to do with lighting, as some of that looks rather dark.

This thread is still here SDM007, it just takes a bit of resurrecting! We might as well keep using this one since it is already several pages long anyway. For those of you who are interested, I have come caps here from the RTÉ One Christmas ident (which I must agree is very good this year - fantastic music). Sorry I can't upload the video itself...my TV card is ill.

They seem to be playing this ident (and indeed all of the new ones) out fully most of the time which is what they're made for!

Yeh couldn't find it yesterday. Anyway I really think that the RTE one must have taken a lot more planning (strange from RTE...) than the BBC's "snowball":

Well at least BBC One actually animates, rather then a logo slapped on to film. Thanks for the cap, Phen.

Not a bad effort by RTE One with their Christmas ident.

Only see their Christmas presentation so far, not sure what RTE Two or TG4 have done...
