Were ITV originally offered this then? I know a few shows that ITV decided not to have, the most recent example being 'The Street', which was brilliant.

IIRC The Street was actually originally destined for Channel 4. Casanova is another example though of an ITV show which got passed over by the next work.

Let's hope it's not a case of being made for Christmas and then realising it just isn't good enough.

This special episode of The Royle Family isn't actually a Christmas special and airs on the 29th of this month. I think originally they planned it for christmas, but I guess they changed their minds.

Shame it would have made for perfect viewing in the 9pm slot on Christmas Day....whilst eating one of m'Nanna's mince pies.

I remember the Christmas special in 2000 - "Bye Bye Daby Bavid" Laughing

I read an article with Andy Harries who was attacking ITV, and mentioned 'The Street' as being one of the dramas that ITV decided not to go with. He said he was really disappointed.

I might be wrong but I think I remember reading that.

the BBC were originally offered Coronation Street Wink

bet they've been kicking themselves for the last 46 years

Young David is played by Craig Cash's son Harry. Did he play baby David 6 years back as well?

Baby David was orginally played by twins if I remember.

Off the top of my head one of the baby David twins was called Matthew...will check later. I believe it's a stipulation that when filming with minors they are only allowed to "work" for 20 minutes (?) at a time, so casting agencies usually provide twins as you get 40 minutes out of them.

Well what did you think?

For me - some funny bits, some sad bits - but I admit on the whole I was really disappointed.
