Not sure which megathread I should post this to, but I've been watching the whole of the royal wedding on BBC World News. So if anyone is interested in what's WN coverage is like, here is a quick summary of it:

Even though the BBC News Channel began their coverage produced by BBC Studios at 9AM, WN did not take the NC output instead they broadcasted 1 hour of their own special coverage. WN joined NC at 10AM and simulcasted their feed all the way. It should be noted that there are a lot of UK channel references on the programme (such as mentioning what's coming up on BBC One) even when the programme is simulcasted.

Following the end of the BBC Studios programme, WN did not opt out for their own adverts, instead, they stayed on the NC output instead and simulcasted their own special coverage with presenters from both channels (Katty Kay, Babita Sharma, and Jane Hill). I assume they did not take the studio feed but the output feed instead because they played the NC countdowns all the way with the WN strap generated by RedBee and the news ticker is identical to that of NC...
*

At some point, there was a 0.5 sec blank screen on WN and it seems that WN central gallery has switched to the studio feed instead of the output feed (Couldn't take a screenshot of that moment).

Throughout the simulcast, WN lower-third had some issues where their lower-third froze and couldn't sync with the NC lower-third...
*

After that basically, WN simulcasts with NC all the way till 6PM. In a nutshell, what you see on NC from 10AM onwards is what you see on WN.

NBC's Savannah Guthrie with BBC's Katty Kay on the NC and presumably World as well.

Strange considering the BBC / CBS partnership.

If Sky were using BBC cameras inside the chapel for their UHD, did the BBC supply the Dolby Atmos sound mix as well? Both pictures and sound were stunning.

Are there any samples of the Sky UHD picture quality?

The location of ITV’s studio paid off when they got that good shot of Harry and Meghan going past and waving at them. It looked like Sky News were just across the road from ITV.

In comparison the position of the BBC’s Dermot and Kirsty studio was a bit odd, as it didn’t really feature much going on behind and the crowds were too far back to create the same atmosphere.

Really liking watching ITV - great coverage in my opinion. Does anyone know why there isn't an 'ITV' logo in the corner?

It seems the UK broadcasters have decided to be very restrained when it comes to graphics and are broadcasting their coverage as clean as possible. Sky News have also switched off their ticker for their coverage.

Sky News had the ticker back up at 3pm, after the simulcast with Sky One finished.

I think the ITV coverage has been great the mix of presenters felt warm and inviting and each has brought their own persona to it seeing Charlene, Mary, Nina, Charlotte, Julie and Phil really brought the whole event to life well done all at ITV

There's always this argument. The BBC rightly adopt a formal approach, only bowing to populism at the start and end of the event. Huw, Kirsty and Dermot satisfied this well bringing all the relevant issues forward without overdoing things. If others don't like this approach they're free to go elsewhere. The crucial parts the wedding service itself, the invited guests and those invited to be in the Castle's grounds are the story, other non invited spectators are just that, and should be ignored while the pomp and ceremony is in progress and after summing that up.

Yes, they were almost exactly opposite each other. The ITV studio had the BBC News Channel and World positions on one side and the BBC radio positions on the other.

Quite surprised S4C had no live coverage in Welsh. Also although C4 traditionally leave these things to others offering signed coverage would have been a good fit for them. Surprised the BBC News simulcast didn't do that really, even if just for the service.

As for the coverage only saw bits of what the BBC had to offer but Kirsty and Dermot were an inspired choice. So glad the BBC now use Kirsty Dimbleby Young for special events - she is a superb broadcaster.

Through a combination of my roof aerial being on the blink, a weird technical glitch and being in a rush out the door to go to another event today I couldn't get the BBC's coverage and went with ITV. And I was glad I landed there, to be honest. I much prefer the light-hearted approach to the whole thing. The only issue is that once they went into the church itself the commentary becomes ultra-sombre, and that jars tremendously with what's going before, whereas the BBC is consistent throughout.

Of course, it wouldn't matter if the BBC had Mr Blobby presenting and ITV offered everyone £100 each to watch their coverage, the BBC would always win by default anyway. ITV's on a hiding to nothing with this one. Sky can at least continue to cover the aftermath for those who really can't get enough.

I’m 95% sure Katty is an MSNBC contributor and has popped up on NBC programs as well. So it could be a friendship thing.

During BBC One at the beginning they showed the worlds media and they actually interviewed two or three of NBC local anchors and showed a shot of Hoda Kotb during a break. But they didn’t show Gayle King of CBS.
