I don't think they should interrupt programmes. It's not very respectful.

Hmm.. 3000 people died in a terrorist attack at two Skyscrapers, let's not break in to programming.

Well surely an ALTERNATIVE should be offered.

ITV News has all but given up on breaking news, so maybe they should leave it to BBC News 24 on BBC1 should it happen, Four and Five need not interrupt anything, and BBC2 should carry on as normal.

Lets be honest do we really need all 5 channels showing us unhappness?

Yes BBC1,
Yes Channel4 ( Smart people news)

BBC2, ITV, Five then really there should carry on unless it really big like the twin tower.

but the Queen mother die, we all know it was coming and it not like it was a major change in power. even the queen ( well she's in her 70's )

What STV did with the bombing I like and was perfect there give us our normal programmes, but still give us News flashes

But you could argue that all the main broadcasters would want to show their respect, and also air programmes which they had prepared for such an event.

I can't imagine that the digital entertainment channels would alter their schedules though so these days there would be an alternative available. The days when we would have blanket coverage (for example when The Queen dies) have long since passed.

The Queen is 82 Wink

I would expect all five main channels to break into programmes to report news of the Queen's death. But for anyone less senior, I expect it'd just be BBC1 and ITV1.

Yeah, but when neighbours had finished it was just a plane crash.

Something that's forgotten now is that at the time it was just a tragic accident with an unknown number of casualties. The first reaction to seeing the pictures from the smoking World Trade Center was more 'that's interesting' than 'oh my god!'

It was only as events developed that it turned into something much much worse

In terms of Christmas Day, I'm sure both BBC One and ITV1 would clear their schedules for the death of the Queen or someone else high up in the family, but would prehaps keep coverage short to reduce disruption to the scheduled specials. As for a major football match such as England in the World Cup however, I think they would be more worried about taking the match off air. Prehaps they could use an on-screen banner instead, in the same way Sky do on their channels alerting viewers to change to Sky News.
