This could be put into the Newsroom but as im talking about a general effect on telly I decided to put it here.
If there was a royal death on Christmas Day would we miss all our Christmas TV on BBC1 and ITV1or would it be moved to the BBC2 and ITV2? Also what about if England where in world cup final, and the news broke around kick-off time?

Depend on the death, maybe the queen, big ears or william maybe

but if it was that old duchess Not very likely

I assume we will be subjected to the prepared agenda of programmes on all channels if it was HM, Phil or Chas.

If it was a younger royal (Wills or Harry) they wouldn't have anything planned, so I suppose we would be into the same scenario as 10 years ago - rolling news splashed across all channels (except Five which would continue to show cartoons).

No doubt one of the BBC insiders will be able to tell us what the actual protocols are.

I'm pretty sure Channel 4 stuck to most of their schedule last time - might be misremembering, but if there was a two-minute silence or something, they were showing Friends at the time (and I was watching it).

That question doesn't necessarily have to be restricted to a royal death, it could also apply to any major news story

But that surly beacuse no one in England cares about Scotland if it happend in Birmingham it would probbely get the same sort of coverage.

Probably part of the reason why the IRA were never interested in bombing Scotland.

If you bomb London, it's non-stop 24 hour news. If you bomb Glasgow, no-one notices.

Suppose it works in our favour in some respects... Rolling Eyes

Heh.

I saw this thread next to the Queen one (both new) and jumped to the obvious conclusion.... Laughing

On a similar note, I've often wondered what would happen if two HUGE but unrelated events were to happen at exactly the same time, e.g. Her Maj dying and a massive plane crash or something.

Mother Theresa hardly got a mention when she croked it during the Diana memorium period. All news would be secondary to the death of the monarch, including aliens landing (although ITV would try and like the two).
