Considering the amount of publicity ITV daytime shows generated for it during the day, it was the right decision to get the ITV daytime demo behind it.

It has been reported that ITV's £1Million was less than Skys and C4 bid...but they went with ITV as it would attract more eyeballs.

Channel 4 paying for a royal exclusive would have been really weird.

The value for money per viewer is more if they went with ITV than with C5 or C4. C5 bidding an extra £300k seems to be showboating.

But subsim issue comes into play so who knows. The interview was aired on CBS owned network TEN in Australia so its unclear if they paid a separate fee or if the 9 million paid by CBS included all of CBS properties including Paramount+ and TEN.

It doesn't include any rights for Paramount+, streaming rights belong to Harpo. That $9m was for the CBS broadcast (and 30 days on the website) alone.

As others have said, it airing on stations in other countries who happen to share the same owner is, in this case, a coincidence.

I don't think Channel 5 would have paid that sort of money for the interview even though it would done huge numbers for them.

Channel 5 would be content with a two hour talking head-a-thon about the interview rather than getting the interview itself.

Channel 5 will indirectly do well out of this with the material for loads more of those Saturday night royal documentaries.
