Rogue Freeview Channels

For the past few months now I've had the following channels on my Sony VTX-D800U:

800 - Teletext Cars
801 - Play UK
802 - Channel 4
803 - ITV News
804 - Teletext
805 - Teletext on 4
806 - UK Style
807 - no name listed
808 - Discovery
809 - Nick/Paramount
810 - Sky Sports 3
811 - Brit Eurosport

I'm assuming these are new additions to Top-Up TV that will be coming shortly. I find Play UK very interesting because didn't it go bust a few years back?
Like I say these channels have been on my box now for a few months and I haven't seen any one mention them in these forums before. If they have sorry, but can anyone shed any light on them?

Also noticed last night channel 36 changed into Xtraview. Does anybody know what this is?

Usually channels in the 800's are just overspill - generally due to two regions clashing.

Sky Sports 3 certainly won't be coming to TUTV and Play UK is long gone, so these seem to be left from the ITV Digital days.

A rescan or resetting the box seems to be required!

AIUI, some backup equipment on mux D still has the final ITV Digital EPG lineup, and if you happen to rescan at the right moment you will see these channels appear. The channels themselves will never work though (or at best, will display a present day DTT channel).

Check the date, everybody!

This is no April Fools - if james2001 checked the date they would have noticed that my original post was dated 30th March!

I have since re scanned my Sony and the channels have gone. I don't have any 800 channels now.

It didn't cross my mind that they could have been left over from ITV Digital days. It seems so long ago now. I really thought I was onto something there.

Most of these extra channels are a hangover from ITV Digital, I believe that when ITVD went bust it's infrastructure was not removed methodically. Some transmitter sites still have as back-up the ITVD configurations for muxes B,C and D, which are occasionally transmitted in error (usually when the network feed has a 'blip'). Crown Castle should get on and ensure that this back-up facility is re-programmed (or removed) as soon as possible. I suspect that the opportunity will arise shortly with the re-config of muxes C and D to accomodate the new channels recently announced.

I guess what with todays announcement that E4 is coming to freeview and the ongoing 'enigineering/maintenance work' that is going on to get ITV News back in all the regions, there has been some technical changes today. This could probably explain why I have had alot more old ITV digital channels appear again on my Sony VTX- D800U today. Lots more channels this time including:

Sky One
Sky Sports 1
Sky Premier
Cartoon Network
Various ITV Sports Plus Channels
Various ITV Sport Select Channels

Does this mean that the ITV News channel will return shortly in the Mendip transmittor area? They are obviously doing some kind of work.

I thought I had better change the thread title not to mislead anybody.

The ITV News Channel is "projected" to return by the end of May in the HTV/ITV West region, and according to the BBC reception website it looks like there is no work being done on your local transmitter at the moment.
