I'm a bit confused over something. Blue Peter has a behind the scenes on Robin hood where new presenter Andy had a bit part as an archer.
Historically speaking would the have been Afro Caribbeans in the UK at the time of Robin hood?
Very good point. The chances are there will have been a few black people in England at the time, but statistically so few that it isn't worth taking into consideration. More PC by the looks of things.
Of course, Afro-Caribbeans didn't exist at all at the time, being pedantic for a minute!
what did everyone think of the new Robin Hood? I thought it was a bit strange - little bit cheesy. The dramatic music constantly going on in the background annoyed me slightly.
It was ok, I'm sure there have been worse versions made...and there's only so many times you can rewrite a story. Hopefully the following episodes will be better...who knows!
I didn't think it was bad at all - I'd hardly say outstanding, but certainly worth sticking with.
The weak link though was Robin Hood himself - but I'm not sure why. It wasn't as if it's a bad actor - just something didn't seem quite right!
To quote a Radio 2 listener this morning:
"Someone should take that bow an arrow off the up-start before he does some serious damage"
To be honest, it wasn't amazingly brilliant. I didn't think Allan particually did himself any justice. The actress 'playing' Marion was about as interesting as Epping forest and as for Robin, Jonas Armstrong, well, it was frankly a tired cliche being brought back - yet again.
One thing that struck me is there is something up with the language used in the script.
At times, it sounds really stilted (I think they're trying to avoid contraction - don't, can't etc) which sounds odd to 'modern' ears, but then you get modern-sounding phrases dropped in.
I enjoyed the second episode too - however it appears the viewing figures have dropped. Only to be expected I suppose as opening episodes always get more viewers.
