Robin Gibb's Titanic Requiem
on BBC Four? I turned over out of curiosity but I'm finding the frame rate hard on the eyes - it looks like iwas recorded at about 20 frames per second and poorly converted up to 25, or something.
There was one shot at the end of a movement that looked like normal interlaced video, but the rest of it looks mangled.

Looks like it's had some sort of film effect applied that's making the animation judder.
This is particularly bad: http://www.bbc.co.uk/i/b01pjrt3/?t=27m09s especially during the fly-by of the ship. Also again at 28:22. The orchestra pan from 28:58 is noticeably "film-like".
Now watching via the Connect Devices iPlayer feed upscaled to 1080p on my Bravia. The only thing I consider is that the effect has been added to give the overlayed animated visuals the impression of very early juddery cinema film. As a result the effect has been exaggerated to the point of distraction. Having no clear boundary between the performance and the animated elements has further compounded the issues.
(Edit ... I now see that genuine film stock is now in use in addition to the animation)
I wonder if this is to be shown in future in HD and whether that'll look any better.

Didn't see it, but perhaps the field dominance was arse about face ? I notice that happening more and more with news clips, but not yet an edited programme !

That could be it, although I wouldn't've thought my telly would have handled it quite so gracefully. I've just had a look at it with Freesat iPlayer in both standard (25p) and higher quality (50i) and quality seems to vary throughout. At about 15:30 in it looks like regular deinterlaced-to-25p video, but by about 19:30 there's definitely something dodgy going on. Then later on (46m in) it's back to normal 25p (with 50i between pieces for some reason). Skip to 46:45 and it's Aled Jones in juddery-vision.
The graphics (have they been inserted or are they being projected on a screen in front of the orchestra?) have got that horrible 30fps-culled-to-25fps look to them throughout, though.
