I thought I would set this thread up in tribute to Ned Sherrin, who passed away the other day.

Ned Sherrin, who died from cancer aged 76, rose to fame as the man behind That Was The Week That Was, the ground-breaking 1960s TV show that ruffled establishment feathers with its satire on the political characters of the day.

He had a long distinguished career in broadcasting, and was a multi-talented man:

Probably not the best thread to be picky in, but, whilst probably most famous for That Was The Week, Ned actually rose to fame as the producer of Tonight, the programme fronted by Cliff Mitchelmore, which was the first programme to fill the gap between teatime and early evening, previously only the domain of a closedown, so Mummy and Daddy could put the children to bed.

Fair point. To be honest, I was a bit lazy and copy/pasted from the BBC obituary Wink

You are quite right in remarking on his spell as Tonight producer. Sadly off our screens in recent years, but a welcome regular on radio all the same. Great author too I felt.
