I don;t see an an episode of Are You Being Served? after it
have there change the listings
have there change the listings
SO
I think it'll be a 2 or 3 minute tribute and then the episode.
That seems to be the case- I've checked on the Tiscali TV listings and the tribute lasts for 40 minutes, including the episode of Are You Being Served?
Interesting choice, too - they've plumped for one of the later ones, "Front Page Story", from 1981 - from the first series to feature Mike Berry as Mr Bert Spooner.
Methinks they should have gone for the final episode, "The Pop Star", in which Mike Berry played his muscial side for laughs (this was also the episode with the Nick Ross cameo apperance) - if I remember, he gets to appear on TV with the rest of the staff to sing Chanson D'Amour, but he dries up part-way through, and the back-up tape is played at the wrong speed...! I remember watching that one and it was hilarious, a great finale to the show.
Mustn't complain, though - any episode as a tribute is better to JI than no episode at all.

I thought Spooner lost his voice & he had to mime to a pre recorded backing track?
Wasn't the tape recorded funny for some reason?
I only ever remember the episode once on original transmission!

He lost his voice several times when rehearsing for his appearance on "Around London", so the Grace Bros staff took the precaution of preparing a back-up tape in case it happened during his moment of fame.
Needless to say, it did happen and so the back-up tape was used. Unfortunately it came out sounding rather like the Chipmunks, since the store's equipment recorded it at one speed and the TV studio's equipment played it at another, faster, one!
It showed too that Nick Ross (who played the presenter of "Around London" in the episode) was game for a laugh, keeping a straight face while everything decended into farce around him.

SO
Brilliant episode and I see now why they chose it to show in tribute to John - he was central to the story.
By the way, did anyone see Wendy Richard's introduction - she was trying to keep back the tears when she said "We'll miss you, John" - bless her.
