Not worth a new thread, but reports today that Noel Edmonds and Des Lynam are the front runners to replace Richard on Countdown, with a decision expected later this week.

Paul Merton has dropped out, while Richard Digence is seen as having an outside chance.

C4 say Countdown will return before the end of the year.

As we are talking Countdown, during the tribute programmes after Richard's death, they didn't seem to have any footage of Calendar Countdown.
Well tonight on Calendar they dug some out of the archives as part of the ITV 50 feature.

I read that in the paper too, I wouldn't be bothered if Des Lynam got it, as he is more welcoming and friendly and more of a housewives favourite. Though I can't believe Noel Edmonds has considered it, he was great on Noel's House Party, but I don't think he's the right man for Countdown, he has no association with the show or any half decent Game show.

As for Richard Digance, I wouldn't mind seeing him either, as he has appeared on Countdown enough to establish himself, though I'm not sure how well he would be at hosting it, as I haven't seen him do anything else, but he would certainately get on well with Carol.

Last I heard Channel 4 plan to resume Countdown production at the beginning of October, though the papers are saying that Channel 4 aren't confirming or denying anything, so anyone is still in the pipeline.

Telly Addicts?

Noel would be great as a countdown host. It would be excellent to see him back on TV - it'd fit too, as the countdown audience (18-24 / 35+) would have grown up / raised children to him as host of Noels House Party, so now to see him in a much more mature role could really work.

Richard had a reputation for being very nice to the contestants during the off-air periods before and after recording.

Without putting too fine a point on it, Noel's reputation was exactly the opposite with Telly Addicts.

Not a good choice, in my opinion.

I wonder if the memorial service will be televised (a full programme in the YTV region and/or Channel Four, or maybe just 'highlights' on Calendar?)

I doubt it!

Just a question - what does the "DL" stand for in the top graphic "Richard Whitely OBE DL"?

How long did "Calendar Countdown" last for?

Also in regards to replcament presenters, although I like Paul Merton I don't think he would work well on Countdown, more of a evening host
