Well be fair Simon. It's not a Tsunami warranting breaking into the show. The dieal opportunity would be before the next programme but said programme was a violent film all about murder

"We bring you the sad news of Richard's death, now lets enjoy a film about killing". doesn't work.

But if continuity is live, as I assume it would be at this hour, it's nothing just to slip in a brief announcement.

Such a sad loss for British TV. I can't imagine Channel 4 commissioning another series of Countdown, after the current
seres ends. Richard Whiteley was Countdown. Realistically, I doubt it could continue with someone else at the helm.

I met him in the front garden of the BIG Breakfast House at the last ever BIG Breakfast back in March 2002, and he
didn't hesitate to sign autographs, even after taking part in the daft obstacle course in the "Star Turn" competition.

Esther Rantzan is on the phone now. It just shows how well known and liked he was across the TV industry, with loads of famous names queuing up to speak on the ITV News Channel and give their tributes.

They need some more library pictures though. But of course at this time of a Sunday night there will be limited resources available

The BBC Local Radio late show in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire is also dedicated to the news

I think to go from something as sombre as Richard Whiteley's death into a commercial for a car that goes 'shaking that ass' is very poor judgement. Mad There's something to be said about BBC News 24 being commercial free

I was never that good at Countdown. But to be honest, i think that would actually be a funny and brilliant idea. A dedication to the man himself Smile

Okay,so it's a bit early to be talking about these things but if I was his old boss i've gotta be thinking at this moment " who the hell takes over from the legend that is Twice Nightly ? "

Well,here's my suggestion - Rick Wakeman !

Why? of course it's sad news. But at the end of the day he presented a tea time show.

Well that's he will be remembered for nationally, but he did much much more here in the YTV region.

I wouldn't. It's an awkward juxtaposition and would ruin the effect of the anno.

If you want a dry clinical death announcement then fine but what i'd expect is they'd want to pay tribute to him and they can't do that effectivly at such a junction.

and don't be over the top Jez - the guy is one of my favourite celebs but he was only a quiz show host. You can't cancel every show because someone dies.
