I thought it was nice that they played the C4 promo about how presenters wanted to be remembered when they died, and ended with Richard saying he wanted to be remembered as the first face on C4, just before the tribute program. I take it that they had planned to show this.

Must have done.
I have checked the schedules, and I can't see Countdown anywhere. I thought it was being presented by someone else, or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

RIP Richard. It'll be strange without him if Countdown still continues. Still, I'm sure he'd of wanted it to continue.
Looks like Carol was OK on Soduku Live on Sky One. Wonder if she'll be presenting that if it gets turned into a series.

Me was watching that tribute again last night. Still as good as the first time. One for the archive.

Yes indeed, what a sad week it has been. But yesterday's Mr Countdown tribute was a fitting way to bring everything to a close. The programme had "laughter", the word Gyles Brandeth said would sum up Richard and sadness as Rick Wakeman pronounced "I miss him, already". Carol's last words "love him" as Eva Cassidy's rendition of Sting's "Fields Of Gold" played the programme out as the studio lights were faded.
Countdown will take a break now. No plans on its future (if any) with or without Carol will be made until the Autumn.
Thanks to everyone involved in the last 23 years.

Please forgive me if this has already been asked, but I read that countdown was originally titled calendar countdown. When was the title shortened?

Calendar Countdown was the original version that ran on Yorkshire TV (and Yorkshire TV ONLY) for six weeks in the summer of 1982. It's always been Countdown on C4 since the Calendar branding wouldn't make sense outside the Yorkshire region.

A series of "Sudoku Live"? I rather think not.

It's the official song of DEATH! If ever you see a load of ballet dancers performing to "Fields Of Gold", be very afraid...

Any screengrabs or clips of this anywhere?

Was Countdown shown on Sky One in 1993-97?

There doesn't seem to be any located on the net from what I've found. Your best bet is to write to YTV and see if they have any video copies or the like.

There was none on any tribute programme this week, whether Calendar or Channel 4, so I presume there is none
