I think it would be a good idea to rename the studios Whiteley House, and the dictionary corner could be called Dick's Corner.
Dick's Honorary Corner. Then it would be a really bad pun that doesn't quite work. I guess they've had CECIL for 22 years, a contrived acronym paying tribute to Cecil Korer, so it's not entirely without precedent (though as far as I know, Cecil is still alive) so maybe Dick's Corner wouldn't be too bad. But this whole "he's dead, gotta name something after him" mania is a bit silly, really.
Don't forget, viewers in Yorkshire and viewers with Sky can watch the full length "Richard Whiteley - Television Man", tonight at 11pm, on ITV1 Yorkshire.

But see, bad puns, and being a bit silly (not too silly mind) is what Countdown was all about.

Oh no, was it on today, I thought it was on Friday.

As mentioned there is an Edited version of this programme will be shown on Channel 4 at 2.30pm on Friday.
They should have Networked this programme, granted Richard wasn't associated with Network ITV, it would have been nice to do, and better than TV's Naughtiest Blunders 26 or whatever.

Thanks nwtv2003, I'll try and get the VCR on timer mode, thanks.
Incidentally, did anybody watch TV's most repeated blunders?
I know there was supposed to be Richard Whiteley in it...Did they edit it out? (Or maybe they could have just swapped the edition they broadcast, it must be up to version 9999999999 by now )
I am still shocked about Richard's death, an unique and irreplacable broadcaster and journalist.
Growing up I went through on-off phases of watching Countdown, and although I had an idea he also presented Calendar, it wasn't until I saw a series on C4 called Deadline, which showed life behind the scenes in the Calendar newsroom, that I got a chance to see the other side to Richard's career, and learnt what a consumate and down-to-earth gentleman he was - indeed, the face of Yorkshire Television.
As I was at work I taped the Calendar tribute and it was a fantastic piece of television - I was in tears watching Carol Vorderman being interviewed by Duncan Wood, Duncan handled the interview sensitively yet professionally, and despite how you feel about Carol Vorderman, your heart really went out to her and she deserves respect for speaking to Calendar following the loss of such a very close friend.
YTV should rightly be praised for how it covered the death of undoubtedly its best-known employee, or even, ambassador.
Even having Gaynor Barnes, Susan Brookes and Geoff Druett laughing on the sofa recalling their experiences working with Richard fitted in perfectly - celebrating his career and the impact he had on not only their lives, but to the lives of millions of viewers on a local and national scale.
But I should also mention Look North and their coverage of Richard's death - again, an excellent and sincere tribute. I only caught the 2230 bulletin but I found Richard's old mate Christa Ackroyd's tribute was put together beautifully, and Ian White wearing a black tie was a nice and humble touch - it illustated perfectly the affection and respect Richard had from all broadcasters in Yorkshire, BBC or YTV.
My thoughts are with his partner Kathryn Apanowicz, Richard's family and all of his colleagues. God bless you Richard, rest in peace and thank you for everything.
