Here is the URL for this afternoon's speech from Carol Vorderman which also includes the start of the programme featuring Richard's quip about the end of Countdown and a joke sent in by a viewer involving death.
The tribute most definitely. Because when you normally hear friends of celebrities talking about their recently diseased friends, they somehow remain very cold, but Carol does not hold back her tears at all, and it really gets you going
Quite a bit; a close friend of mine recetly had a death in the family, so I've got a bit of a better idea (than I previously did) of what it's like to be in that position.
Still, Carol obviously wanted to do the intro; if she didn't, then we'd have just got a statement from a continuity announcer. And she wasn't sad throughout, she was smiling through the anecdotes.
It's just when it hits you (again) that someone's not coming back that you start to lose your composure.
I think I heard somewhere that there will be a documentary about Richard at 2.30 on Friday then the Countdown Final, followed by a tribute to Richard afterwards.
That's right - the documentary at 2.30 is one that was shown regionally on ITV1 Yorkshire last year (on 21 November in fact), but hasn't been networked until now.
Incidentally, if anyone from the Channel4 website is reading this, you still haven't listed either this or the tribute programme in your TV lstings guide yet, so go and do it NOW!
I wasn't sure what to make of Carol's final few words on her Tues 15:15 intro: "The clock stopped too soon".
I got the impression that maybe someone else scripted that, from how upset she became when saying it.
It was kind of a "pun" - equating his death to Countdown terminology - which perhaps seemed a bit tasteless.
Then again, as Richard was known for his puns, I can kind of see how appropriate it was. So, maybe it was Carol's own words, and it was a kind of tribute to his influence/style.
Not a problems guys about the link but I got it from a different forum though so it wasn't something I uploaded etc.
But indeed a moving 1 and a half minutes from Carol. That show had everything yesterday. Did anyone see one of the numbers games where the teenager got all his sums up to 5075 just to get to an end result of 229 or sommat and then we had the word "Fannies" in the show much to the amusement of Richard!
I seem to remember a long time ago watching a clip of Richard Whiteley being the only one not in on a joke which involved the letters picked adding up to OMETHINGS, and then he joked about it possibly being easy, then everyone said they only got 5 letters or 4, and the expression on his face was classic. I'm almost sure it was Noels House Party or something, must of been a gotcha. I can almost imagine Noel Edmonds appearing from nowhere right now.

It was - the clock also ticked round to 40 seconds.
I remember that as being one of the few amusing wind-ups that Noel Edmonds did. In the interview afterwards Richard said that there was a lot more than they showed though, I think the phrase he used was "a gag in every round"! Shame we never got to see the whole thing.
