Here is the URL for this afternoon's speech from Carol Vorderman which also includes the start of the programme featuring Richard's quip about the end of Countdown and a joke sent in by a viewer involving death.

Thanks very much for that russnet. I don't think I can even watch the final episode on Friday.

Will it be the final day on Friday though? Are they not a day behind now?

Good point. Well, whenever the final episode is.

One edition Tuesday, one edition Wednesday, TWO editions Thursday, one edition and a tribute programme Friday.

I think I heard somewhere that there will be a documentary about Richard at 2.30 on Friday then the Countdown Final, followed by a tribute to Richard afterwards.

Carol's tribute before the show today really was quite emotional; and she looked like she was about to burst into tears as the camera cut away. But that first shot of Richard in the title sequence makes me smile.

The Guardian had a nice feature on him in G2 today, you can read it at http://media.guardian.co.uk/site/story/0,14173,1516026,00.html

There's also some bits and pieces on channel4.com/countdown, including this rather nice little fact:
Quote:
Almost every day that Countdown is on, a lady called Viv rings up to tell the team, round by round, the words she got and how she solved the numbers.

Just reading Richard's webchat he did a couple of years ago and this question made me laugh...

Quote:
Viewer : If I was winning can I just select 9 consonants and laugh at my opponent?

Richard Whiteley laughs
Richard Whiteley : No you have to have a minimum of 3 vowels.

It's a good question and I didn't realise you needed at least 3 vowels but there you go.

I've always wondered that to be honest. It's always confused me why contestants say they don't have any words from the letters, even though I found 'dog'. Very Happy

Carol Vorderman has clearly and understandably been greatly affected by Richard's death.

Watching the introduction to today's Countdown made me rather emotional. Carol's message was so heartfelt and clearly shows the shock and terror that she and many other people are feeling over Richard's death.

I am pleased Channel 4 are screening the last episodes - as Carol said, Richard would have wanted the public to see them. It's the best send off he can hope for because it's what he did best.

Did anyone get a recording of this intro? I didn't get the chance to see it, but would like to.

Many Thanks. Carol looks so sad, i really feel for her and everyone who knew him. And that's not an empty statement.
