We should rename this thread 'Richard Whiteley tributes' maybe? Lets make things a little less depressing. Sad

Of course, people are bound to disagree with me...

Ditto, why is it when a loved TV personality dies and when people pour thier tributes on TV Forum there is someone on here annoyed by this? Confused

I'm not annoyed by it (if its me your getting at). I just think it would be nice to rename the thread.

The first 10 minutes of last night's Look North (Leeds) also featured a tribute to Richard Whiteley. Mostly using the material provided by Yorkshire Television

Look North (Hull) also had a shorter tribute. One personal memory from Peter Levy was when Richard appeared on Lunchtime Look North with Peter and Paul a few years ago

The comments that are rude on the condolance site WILL be removed before the copy is forwared to YTV.

I am NOT removing the site. There are many comments on there that will not only give his family some solice and comfort but also reflect the mood of the nation.

Yorkshire TV, BBC North, Channel Four and S4C are all connected with the site, and will have the final say before anything is passed onto his family.

I think the family know how people are feeling. They'll have lots of these. Rolling Eyes

If Steddenm wants to set up an online condolence book then why on earth not - s/he is free to do so. What's it got to do with the rest of you? If you don't want to contribute, then you are free not to.

well if he will mention it on a forum, theres half a chance we may discuss it. perhaps he ought to have kept it quiet if he didnt want to be criticised.

Unfortunately too many people on this Forum automatically criticise everything - often it seems, just for the sake of it. For once, particularly on something sensitive like a condolence book, couldn't people have just turned a blind eye rather than berate the poster for setting it up, and then going on to imply all sorts about the mental state of people who may want to fill in the book? This sort of book thing isn't my cup of tea, but there's no need to be nasty. If the poster hadn't said they'd set it up themselves, maybe linking to a BBC one or something, I suspect there wouldn't have been half the negative feedback.

I'm sorry to have dragged this debate back to the top, I acknowledge it is out of place in this thread so I'll not go further. I just felt I needed to respond to TV Mercia and this is the first time I've looked here today.

Sounds a good idea, and when it's closed maybe the last post could be just the photo/date capture from Look North in Andrew's thread - it would seem appropriate for this forum to leave it that way maybe?

Yes, i feel this is something we can't drag on forever as sad as it may sound. Just hearing/seeing Carol's emotional speech before Countdown today has made me (like i'm sure a lot of people) quite depressed. I think in respect to everyone we should rename the thread at least.

Changed now. I agree with the comments made above.

As someone from a region affected dramatically by the death (albeit in a totally different but more shocking circumstance) of a regional personality whom had become a National Treasure - Jill Dando, Can I congratulate the BBC people in Leeds in the way that Look North covered this sad story yesterday - 27th June? I don't have access to Satellite but decided to watch the low bit rate Real file from the BBC Website and it impressed me greatly. It was a truly professional piece of Journalism.

Well done.

The Calendar moves on.

Here is the URL for this afternoon's speech from Carol Vorderman which also includes the start of the programme featuring Richard's quip about the end of Countdown and a joke sent in by a viewer involving death.

Thanks very much for that russnet. I don't think I can even watch the final episode on Friday.
