Sky News reporting Richard Whiteley has passed away in the last hour.

Rather upsetting news.

Oh dear, what a very sad loss. Countdown will never be the same.

None of the other channels have announced the news yet, but I feel that there is no doubt about the authenticity of the news. Sky seemed to get the news from their Business editor Michael Wilson who is a close friend of the family. He said that he died from complications during a heart operation.

Very sad news..... Sad

I'm sure Channel 4 will have a news flash in the next ad break.

I wonder if Channel 4 will have a news report this evening. I think Sky News might have been well ahead with this one, as Michael Wilson was a close friend.

Indeed a very Sad loss to the world of Television, shame to think this, as they reported he was 'getting better', but I heard about his Heart surgery in the paper yesterday.

Very Sad News, R.I.P Richard.

I'd like to think some sort of announcement would be made on C4 this evening.

Jesus what is it with newscasters. Are they so inept with presenting they can only ad-lib a cliche or are they so inept they cannot correct a badly written autocue as they read?

"more on that when we get it"

*NO* that is not the correct phrase to use. There is no more detail in the story, he's dead. "We'll take a look back at his life" or something similar but not "more on that".

Oh really? How inconsiderate of him to die out of the broadcasting hours of C4N.

You didn't perhaps consider a continuity announcement perhaps or a news report could occur did you? No, you clearly didn't.

This is terrible news, 61 is hardly old these days.

Though given the duration of his illness, this was always a possible outcome. RIP Richard.
