Well he has a much bigger profile because of his car crash. Before that he was just another TV presenter. I think it could work now.
But I don't think nearly dying has improved his presenting technique, which in the end is what's going to keep people coming back to a show. Okay, because of his higher profile, they may be more likely to tune in initially out of curiosity, but the content needs to work to hold onto the audience. Being a big name isn't enough as Sharon Osbourne and Anthony Cotton have proved.
Come Dine with Me has been commissioned to fill the slot for a number of weeks (in addition to the new prime time version). C4 are also piloting two new quiz series over the summer.
