Currently Richard & Judy is sponsered by chevrolet, the same as Paul O'Grady, yet the Summer Reads section that started today did something that I'd never seen on British TV.

Richard started to introduce the section when a banner popped up at the bottom of the screen on black (that looked on for the programme) simply saying Richard & Judy's summer reads before then changing to say something along the lines of sink into the book with Galaxy Ice Cream (complete with product logo).

I didn't think that this was allowed on British TV, and very strange that the first programme to use it is Richard & Judy rather than a sporting event such as F1 which could surely use something like this instead of going to at least one set of adverts.

Not seen it, but would it be something similar to when features are sponsored on GMTV or Sky News or something - that's possibly how they get away with it.

I seem to remember this was done during their last Book Club.

I suppose the difference is the fact that they sponsering a segment in the middle of a programme that is already being sponsered.

So the final show has aired and this is the end for the duo on terrestrial TV anyway after 20 years.

One of my very first posts on this forum was regarding Richard Madeley and 5 years on nothing much has changed, he's still a rude annoying prat imo. There is going to be an interview with him on Channel 4 News this evening. I pity anyone who has to work with him. I reckon he's an arrogant sod backstage to be honest and it has sometimes shown when he's shouted at people to do things for him LIVE on air.

For someone who has to be on top the whole time I think Mr Madeley is going to feel very abandoned over on UKTV but time will tell.

I'm quite sad to see the end of R&J on Channel 4. It always had at least one good guest or topic of interest, and was far more intelligent than any of the other talk/magazine/lifestyle programmes on during the day.

I hope Watch schedules their new programme in the same sort of slot

I agree with you. He gets under my skin. I remember the two of them presenting This Morning but I've only become more familiar with them on Channel 4 as I was at school when they were on ITV (so I only saw them on sick days). He's become increasingly irritating and I've found him almost unwatchable this series. In general, I think this series has been very sickly and tonight's show was cringe-worthy. It was very self-congratulatory and did not make for good television. Good riddance, I say.

I agree with you there, it's nice to see Books and Wine being talked about on a regular basis, aswell as News or showbiz. So on that front I'll miss their C4 show, although I won't miss Madeley's arrogance or devoting time to showing YouTube on TV, which is really lazy.

Although my favourite Alan Partridge moment during their C4 run is when they spoke to Bill Clinton and RIchard comapred his Tesco incident to that of the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal. Rolling Eyes

I'm glad its not a bitter departure, although its ashame that the format can't continue with new hosts, although maybe it wouldnt work, but i think it would.

So,
Farewell then,
Richard and Judy.

I liked it
When
You were
On This Morning .

And when
You played your
Call-in game.

"Watch"
Is the name
Of your
New Channel.

Alas,
It appears that
No-one
Will.
