There's a video of Friday's quiz being cancelled so it must be true
It'll be interesting to see Richard explaining the news story on Monday, it'll probably boost ratings!

If true it sounds pretty dodgy.
However, are the Daily Mail / Mail on Sunday anymore trust worthy than C4 and Richard and Judy?

How on earth do you arrive at a figure for someone's chance of winning by using the amount you pay and the winning sum?

It doesn't take much though to work out your chances - £1 a time and an average prize of around £7000 should be enough to work out your chances are around 1 in 10,000 at best - not accounting for any profits or tax etc.

I'm surprised they aren't having a go at Endemol for the Deal Or No Deal competition procedure. Ringing and paying £1 doesn't even guarantee you a a chance of winning. I usually entered using the website, and with occassional glitches (especially on February 14th) there is no chance of getting on there.

These premium rate quizzes are all as guilty as each other. The Mail on Sunday of course felt it necessary to use a huge shot of Tony Blair playing You Say We Pay early last year.
Richard will defend this like mad tomorrow, I can hear him now:
"You may have read in the Sunday papers that our You Say We Pay quiz is a scam and that we are cheating callers - well I can assure you myself and Judy are unaware of any such goings on but as a result there will be no You Say We Pay until legal matters are resolved which are beyond our control... isn't that right Judy? Judy?"
JUDY: "Well we will keep you informed and we're very very sorry if you feel cheated.....
RICHARD: "...but its nothing to do with us Judy is it? Come on guys, its up to you if you want to ring through or not....anyway Gillian McKeith joins us later to talk about sh*t"

No competition gives you a guarantee of winning though!
I do prefer the way Deal or No Deal do it though with a straight forward phone in rather than a qualifying question that insults your intelligence.

He didn't say it guarantees winning. He said:
All competitions should guarantee a chance of winning! But it would appear that the Richard and Judy competition allegedly doesn't. Also, most competitions require a qualifying question by law.

Couldn't agree more. The law about "requiring an element of skill" is made pointless by the qualifying questions being ridiculously easy. Except for many of these quiz call-in channels, which apparently make their money from people who have to answer impossibly difficult questions...
Either way, there seems to be one born every minute. A sucker, that is, not a new quiz channel, thank God.

And stupid law - or at least stupidly enforced law. I think there is supposed to be an element of "skill", which there never is in these qualifying questions for most TV comps.
