I would be more worried about his heart! I think Paul need the 12 weeks off!

Pure speculation, but perhaps he'll come back for two shorter series of 6-8 weeks each rather than having guest presenters midway through.

More of Richard's ramblings today...

(in talking about Graham Norton's new viewer "talent" vehicle...) "Oh yes the girl with the dog, must get her on next week Jude...anyone listening? Producers? Yes? Next week.."

For Beadle's final season, the computer-cartoon title sequence featuring the gaudy colourful rooms of the crooked house was replaced by a much less colourful GCI title sequence featuring a camcorder (so, mostly black/greys/silvers etc, then), and a shiny silver logo. Yet the crooked-house set remained! It was so mismatched Rolling Eyes Although, I think the crooked-house was re-painted (multiple shades of mid-dark blues, or something), to not be so gaudy and multi-coloured.

How bizarre, I've always thought myself to be a fan of YBF but i have no memory of these titles whatsoever!

I know it's a bit late to mention this but I remember yesterday when Ted Robbins spoke about Jimmy Carr saying that "gay" to people from Newcastle means "wears a coat".

Funnily enough, the first repeat aired on Challenge the same night, featured Jimmy saying that exact line. Laughing

Does anyone know if More4 will be repeating Richard and Judy and Paul O'Grady? For some reason they dropped the repeats which used to be aired the folllowing day.

For people who work over the 5pm slot it would be nice to have another chance around lunchtime to see it. What does people think??

Paul O'Grady was dropped a while back, while Countdown has also been removed from the repeat list now - all seemingly replaced with US versions of C4 shows.

No idea why though - perhaps that's one for Tube Talk to investigate!

When Paul first moved to channel 4, wasn't the idea that he and R&J would do half the year each (3 months at a time)?

With Paul's runs seemingly getting gradually longer, it seems that now Paul's show is consiered by channel 4 to be the "flagship" 5pm show (which R&J previously was), and R&J merely the "filler" for when Paul's show is away!

Given the recent experimental "guest host" situations whenever Paul's been ill/away etc, I can't help but wonder if ultimately R&J's show will be squeezed out altogether?

Imagine... something that is effectively Paul's show (albeit perhaps with a non-host-specific title instead) could be on literally all year round, with Paul presenting for some periods of the year, and one or more alternative host(s) for other periods of the year.

Don't get me wrong, I really like R&J's show, but the contrast between the two formats is huge. Paul's show has a studio audience, and therefore the "exciting" atmosphere that that creates, through cheering etc. R&J is so sedate by comparison. Also, Paul's show is so not-taxing (it's all very showbiz and fluffy), whereas R&J can discuss serious and sometimes fairly high-brow subject matter (but, not to the exclusion of lighter content, of course).

As, "showbiz/fluffy" shows (e.g. Paul's show) tend to get the higher rating than "more intelligent" shows (e.g. R&J), it's easy to see how tempting it would be for a broadcaster to err away from the latter.

Such a "victory for dumbing down" would indeed be a shame IMHO, so long may R&J (or, at least, an equivalent show) reign - but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it is heading for being squeezed out altogether.

To be honest though I think Richard and Judy series getting shorter is as much due to them as it is C4 - from interview I've seen Judy especially is keen to cut back, and I think if it wasn't for Richard she'd have willingly quit altogether.

I have just heard that Dale Winton is back next week with a brand new Supermarket Sweep at 5:30pm on ITV1. Is this ITV1's attempt to steal viewers away from R & J? What do people think. Will it work?

ITV1 have been hopeless with their 5:00pm slot. Does anyone know if there will be any big changes there because Channel4 has reigned supreme in the 5pm slot.??
