Who's that?

That will be ITV's head of daytime Nick Thorogood and his record isn't that impressive see this from Broadcast.

The shake-up in ITV's commissioning structure has claimed one of its first casualties - daytime editor Nick Thorogood.

Thorogood's departure in the next few weeks follows the appointment of Alison Sharman as director of factual and daytime, starting on 16 January.

Thorogood has had a rough ride since joining the broadcaster in November 2004 from UKTV where he was head of lifestyle. Working with ITV controller of off-peak Steven Andrew, the pair re-launched daytime as ITV Day - pumping millions of pounds into the new schedule.

But the results were disappointing with a number of flops including chat show Nigella, Baby House and The People's Court. Stalwarts such as This Morning have also had a tough 12 months and the time it took to find a strong replacement for Trisha damaged the network's performance.

However, he has had some success commissioning shows such as Trisha replacement The Jeremy Kyle Show and returning series Have I Been Here Before?, Dial a Mum and Mums on Strike.

This show is rubbish.

By the way, ITV are replanning to bring back 'I Want that House'.

Today's show was quite good. Mel is the better host though. The cockup with the price of the phone calls was hilarious

I feel this show has still got to find it's feet. It's getting better but I think people are expecting it to be an exact replacement in the vein of Richard and Judy, Des and Mel or Paul O Grady. It isn't remotely like those programmes and people need to remember that ITV are attempting to offer something different in this slot for a change!

DO we know if today's programme was live aswell?

its total crap. ITV need to move away from these derivative 1 hour personality led daytime chat shows (Paul O'Grady being the exception).

I'm tired of Des & Mel, Nigella, Loose Women, Richard Hammond etc, good thing that daytime bloke has gone.

They all have the same vacuous format and phone-in competions at exactly the same point in the programme. 5-6 should be for a decent quiz, and not Family Fortunes lite.

Paul O'Grady is the only other 'personality' in that slot, isn't he? Des & Mel, Loose Women, Nigella etc all have/had slots in the early afternoon.

You're absolutely right all of these shows are variations of the same theme; The Paul O'Grady works because of his personality you can't give a personality driven show to people with little or no personality as it will fail.

I remember seeing Paul everytime he stood in for Des on Today with Des and Mel, he completely stole the show and Mel didn't need to be there. ITV bosses realised this and gave him The Paul O'Grady Show, I think it took even ITV by surprise how successful it was. They tried Des and Mel in that time period and it failed that's why it's back on in the lunchtime. This 5 O'Clock show programme doen't work at 5 and perhaps it would fair better at lunchtime. But the biggest problem is that the two presenters don't have enough personality to make the show work.

I don't think Richard Hammond is likeable enough to front this show. His whole character doesn't quite seem to sit with the guests and the audience for some reason.

It's a refreshing change from the likes of the Paul O'Grady Show, and it has grown on me, but they need to sort out the chemistry between Richard and everyone else! Oh, and rename it 'The 5 O'Clock Show' or 'The 5 O'Clock Show with Richard and Mel'.
