Looking forward to this second spin-off programme from Eggheads. It marks the return to our screens of CJ de Mooi, the sole Egghead to feature in this show. It will hosted by one of Eggheads' two presenters Jeremy Vine his first spin off with Dermot having presented Are You An Egghead?

Little seems to be known of the format.

This begins at 6pm Monday on BBC Two.

That photo makes it look as though he's on the set of Liquid News.

So BBC2 becomes unwatchable again during the day from Monday. Why on earth have they given him his own show - and why on earth with such a limited budget are they replacing Eggheads with an Eggheads spin-off. Surely they could be doing something more original instead.

I've come to expect this anti-Eggheads agenda from you. Obviously BBC Two and 12 yard see CJ as one of the stand out Eggheads and needed him to return to the show to supply the licence fee payers with what they want, so offering him a new format in addition to Eggheads was a clever way of winning him back. Of course they could have developed this format and not linked it to the Eggheads brand but that would have been beyond moronic, when you can easily link it to an already popular brand but also attract new interest with what I assume will be a rather interesting new gameplay mechanism.

Interesting new gameplay mechanism? I'm willing to put money on this show involving people answering very boring multiple choice questions as slowly as possible and than having to make up bogus reasons why they have chosen each answer. Maybe I will be wrong and that big red button is linked to a gunge tank or something but I very much doubt it. I'd say if this format really does have an interesting new gameplay mechanism, then the moronic thing would be to link it to the Eggheads brand which I assume people associate with feelings of frustration and wanting to kill themselves.

I've actually always quite liked the 12 Yard approach of talking through the answers as I'm interested to know if the players thought processes arriving at the answer are similar to my own, it can seem a bit forced sometime though.

But it must have done something right as Eggheads for over 10 years, and it's quite difficult for new gameshows to launch successfully these days. I'd say this new title will interest the majority of the current Eggheads viewers, but also might win some people who once watched it back or those who are just familiar with the show and curios.

I don't get what people like Brekkie have against Eggheads it's probably the most straight quiz on TV apart from Mastermind and there is an audience for that and you probably wouldn't have the Chase without it. It has a gentle humour to it, similar to Countdown too.

If that plunger doesn't drop a price I will be very disappointed.

When I first read about the format, it read like a rip-off of The Chase, but with a really cringeworthy name and a really annoying quizzer. Normally it's hard to dismiss a game show when so little is known about the format, but I'm willing to dismiss it on the basis of CJ de Mooi alone.

I'll still watch it though, because I'm a maniac and I'm willing to do such sadistic things to myself.

EDIT: I'm part of the "hating Eggheads" camp, which is down to CJ de Mooi, questions that are far too tailored towards the Eggheads, and the general lack of humour. It also plods along far too slowly and for far too long in comparison to Mastermind and University Challenge (both of which garner more laughs from me).

Things like that are funny.

One of the things that's good about Eggheads, is simply unlike The Chasers who you feel can take it on the chin a bit more most of the original 5 eggheads.

Loved The Chase though it's a great format.

Are they, are they really?

Taken in context watching as a part of the wider show whilst having your tea certainly.

If someone just posts the link of that moment perhaps not as much so.

I remember when I was younger, I hated Mastermind and University Challenge because they were slow and boring. That they are now some of the fastest paced quiz formats around really says something. I blame Millionaire...
