Jonathan Pie is a prime example. Tom Walker, the guy who plays him, identifies as left wing but he'll willingly attack the left just as ruthlessly as he does the right when he needs to. As a result, going by what's said on Twitter, people on the right think he's a loony lefty, and people on the left think he's a fascist.

Rolling Eyes If Jonathan Pie was around in the late 1930's his act would be "yeah, Hitler is awul BUT the other side is just as bad. Everything went to hell when these snowflakes started getting offended by everything and refused to listen to other people's opinions".

Thank you for proving my point.

Did they draw the puppet characture designs in a rush?

Take away Prince Harry from the photo, and could you honestly say that was Megan?

I'd probably struggle to identify Megan in real life if Harry wasn't standing next to her, to be fair.

As previous posters have suggested, I think this will fail to make much of an impression (no pun intended) -- the nature and availability of satire has changed so much since Spitting Image last aired, I think nostalgia has played more of a part in getting it resurrected than any genuine demand from viewers.

I completely missed this thread in August because it coincided with me going on holiday...

..so can I take the chance now to thank Steve for that wonderful post up-thread. I never knew that Spitting Image was the brainchild of Martin Lambie-Nairn!

In the closing credits of every episode was the line, 'Based upon a lunch with Martin Lambie Nairn', I can't remember the details, but I don't think he endorsed the product?

Did they just ginger up an old Charles puppet and melt the Maggie Thatcher one for Trump?

I think TV and politics needs this now though even if it feels like politics has gone beyond parody.

I'm half-remembering what was in the book Tooth and Claw here, but I think Lambie-Nairn was/is a committed Christian and wasn't altogether comfortable with a lot of the more vulgar material in the programme.
